Town Make Move for Plymouth Striker

Town are closing in on a loan move for Plymouth striker Rory Fallon, according to reports in the South-West. The 28-year-old is a New Zealand team-mate of Blues defender Tommy Smith.

Fallon played youth football with North Shore United in his home country before joining Barnsley as a 17-year-old. The 6ft 3in tall frontman has subsequently played for Shrewsbury (loan), Swindon, Yeovil (loan) and Swansea before signing for the Pilgrims for £300,000 in January 2007.

The one-time England U16, U17, U18, U19 and U20 international target man - he reverted to playing for New Zealand in 2009 - has scored 19 goals in 84 starts and 57 sub appearances for Argyle.

For New Zealand he has scored three goals in 10 games and played in all three matches at the World Cup in South Africa, having netted the goal which secured qualification via a 1-0 play-off second leg victory over Bahrain.

Town and Plymouth are believed in talks with 5pm today the deadline for Championship clubs to make loan signings.

Bet no one thought we'd be loaning strikers off Plymouth when Marcus Evans came to the club. Dear oh dear...

Fallon is EXACTLY the right kind of player to bring into our club.He will be an ideal target-man for our long ball strategy and will fit in well with Tommy Smith.I can see other clubs looking at us with envy if we sign Fallon.
Great news Roy and a great signing if we get him before the deadline,we can only wait and see with trepidation

I quite like this one. good in the air, seems to get down hearted in games however. I guess it is a sign that Keane is desprate for someone who can hold it up front and stick with one up front. I wouldnt mind if it gets us a point a corrot road.

Shouldn't we give the guy a chance before we slag him off?

Does this mean a striker is on the way out in January?

Surely this is a wind up?
One minute we are going to bid 4 million for Chopra and next we after a loan league 1 striker?

With view to a permanent move in January I guess. Knows the Championship, and is a better bet than some inexperienced Man City kid. Let's give him a chance.

Although I believe we need a striker - I am not sure if this guy is any good. Golacoring record is a poor. Just a rumour though.

I can only imagine this is a player Keane is bringing in as a reserve for our three other strikers (if it happens), ie if two of those three get injured between now Jan we will be looking very short up front.

However, saying that I would much rather have Ismael Miller or Roman Bednar but I guess we are a victim of our location again.

surely he wouldn't want to take such a step backwards ?

Seems like a done deal according to the Evening Star, not sure what to make of this-if Town are still backing Keane then it tends to suggest he isnt going anywhere for the moment.

However 66 goals in 319 appearances is not prolific so a big target man to hold the ball up is clearly what he is being brought in to do, looked quite handy at the World cup, 3 goals in 10 games for the national team.

Am hoping it doesnt signal Wickhams move in January though!

Would be a good signing can't do worse than what we allraedy have, the last forward we got from them i think was Mariner

His strike rate is no better than the strikers we have at the minute, so what is the point.
At least give Priskin and Wickham a run first then see if we need a striker.
If Wickham is going in Jan then I would guess the club would look to loan a top striker with a view to a perminant signing in Jan (if Wickham is to go the board must know that the fans would not settle for a league one striker as a replacement)
Surely the club should be looking at a proper right back first

I nearly spat my coffee out when I read this! Agree we need a striker, but I hoped it would be someone exciting like Jay Emanual-Thomas! But I guess Wenger isn't going to send one of his kids to Keane!
So the scum can attract Henri Lansbury, we get a league one striker who can't score....if it's true of course....
