Town Complete Zuiverloon Loan Signing From West Brom
Town Complete Zuiverloon Loan Signing From West Brom
Thursday, 25th Nov 2010 13:22

Town have completed the loan signing of West Brom right-back Gianni Zuiverloon. The 23-year-old will be at Portman Road until January 4th and could make his debut at Norwich on Sunday.

Zuiverloon, who will train with the Blues for the first time tomorrow, started his career with Feyenoord, moving to RKC Waalwijk on loan, before a 2006 switch to Heerenveen. The Rotterdam-born defender, who can also play at centre-half, joined the Baggies for a fee of £2.3 million in July 2008.

A regular during West Brom’s promotion season, 5ft 8in tall Zuiverloon has only featured in their Carling Cup games since their elevation to the Premier League. Coincidentally, the Blues and the Baggies meet in the quarter-finals at Portman Road on Wednesday, a game he is now ineligible to play in.

Town fans have been calling for Blues boss Roy Keane to sign a right-back for much of the season with Jaime Peters and Tom Eastman, primarily a midfielder and centre-half respectively, having been employed in the role up to now.

Eastman picking up a groin injury at Hull on Saturday could be what has prompted Keane to make the move for the Dutchman.

Zuiverloon is Town's second loan signing of the day with Plymouth's Rory Fallon having already agreed to move to Portman Road.

Town now have six loan players but as Celtic defender Darren O'Dea counts as an overseas loan all of them will be able to included in a matchday squad. No more than five domestic loanees can be named in an 18.

So we need a right back now then?.....

Decent signing to be fair though, much happier with this than Fallon but shame its only now we are only now signing these sort of players - and on loan.

So thats: O'Dea, Zuiverloon, Colback, Livermore, Townsend & Fallon - how many can we play at once?

Long-term where does this leave us. With so many rid-of at the start of the season, those only on loan and those out of contract at the end of the season I really am starting to worry abit.

Trying to keep positive but really struggling.....

Sonian_blue - im fairly certain Eastman is out injured and as it would seem he is now the established number 1 right back we certainly need someone else in, good signing.

This guy looks really good at championship level having played 64 times for WBA in the previous two seasons. I was wondering what the rules are for the number of loan signings we can have and found this bit of info:

Standard loans can be for half a season or a full season. These can only be done during the two transfer windows (i.e. by the end August or January).

Emergency loans can be done outside of the transfer window, but not after the fourth Thursday in November or March.

A club can have a maximum of four players under 23 and a further four over 23 on standard loan during the season. There is no limit on Emergency Loans.

However, only four players maximum can join one club from another during the season.

A maximum of five loan players can be named on a team sheet.

If nobody tells me how to pronounce his name, I'm just going to call him Zondervan...

Is he the sort of right back that crosses the half way line and actually likes to get forward/overlap the winger? Hopefully, because it is what we have been lacking in recent weeks...

Good news, Eastman is a TRUELY AWFUL right back.

He may be OK at centre back, but he is not comfortable on the ball.

He injured his groin when making a routine pass... couldnt even get that right.

Excellent player thank goodness! Now you just need to tell me the Fallon story is a wind up, drop Eastman, put Fulup back in goal, start Townsend, Livermore and Wickham and destroy Norwich and I will start to believe again!!!

Come on Town!!

Last time we signed someone beginning with Z from West Brom we were relegated. Good luc to him anyway. Ps Romeo, Romeo where for art thou now heh?

Martus.... Centre back is a difficult position where a mistake can lead to a goal. Eastman is getting some experience at this level at RB where he is under less pressure..... apart from people like you!

What we really need is someone with an eye for a pass and a bit of pace in midfield to create the danger. Today's signing's look good to me though.

Good signing .. shame about fallon as he should be our 4th best striker behind priskin, scotland and wickham but why would he sign him to be number 4.. maybe keane will play two of our current strikers up top and also have 2 on the bench (does push murray off the bench though which is a shame). surely i must be dreaming...

team will be:
Fulop
Zuiverloon
Delaney
O'dea
Kennedy
Edwards
Leadbitter
Colback (Norris if fit)
Townsend
Wickham
Priskin or Scotland

We will then have either priskin or scotland on the bench with the likes of fallon and livermore etc.

Not so keen on the Fallon signing, but I'll have to wait and see before I make a decision. But this signing is a positive one if you ask me.

A player with a desire to get games, and did a great job last season in WBA's season.

I'm just looking ahead to this sunday. If we are to beat the scum, we need experience, passion and big imposing players. Therefore I would start Fulop ahead of Murphy. I'd put Zuiverloon straight in, and provided Priskin plays upfront, one of Fallon or Wickham to join him. Everyone knows these games boil down to who wants it more.

Last few weeks have suggested that our team just doesn't have the desire. But maybe bringing in players, regardless of how good they are, will wake the players up a bit and make them a little more aware of the challenge for a place in the starting line up.

Players who also played for Feyenoord on their way to Town: Bobby Petta

bluemurder: He is a CB, a young centre back who is good a tackling and strength. Playing RB is completely different, you need to be comfortable on the ball and be able to attack aswel as deffend. Eastmon is none of these and can only resort to smashing the ball with no direct target. I like the fact Keane is pplaying youngsters, but playing them in a wrong position cant help, aswell as the negative press hes been given.
