Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Keane: Poor Decision-Making Let Us Down
Sunday, 28th Nov 2010 16:29

Town boss felt his team was made to pay for poor decision making after the 4-1 defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road. Keane refused to criticise referee Keith Hill for Grant Holt’s controversial first goal or Damien Delaney’s red card just before half-time.

Keane said: “Poor decision-making and giving teams a helping hand has cost us. It was a long second half and it was very hard for us to get back into it. We took a bit of a gamble in the last 15 or 20 minutes and we opened the door to conceding more goals.

“It doesn’t matter what I think about the sending off. Let’s not waste our time and energy talking about whether there was cover, whether he actually pulled him back, the ball should have been cleared, simple as that. Same for the first goal.

“I’m not going to sit here and question the officials, there’s been enough of that over the last few weeks from other managers and other countries.”

The Blues boss felt his players made it difficult for themselves: “In any game of football, whether you’re a professional or an amateur, you’ve got to do the basics right and we didn’t do that today, whether that’s for the first couple of goals or the sending off. You make it very hard for yourself.

“At 2-1, even though we’d gifted two goals away, I think we were very much in the game. It was pretty open, they were causing us problems, but I thought we’d be OK. But then there was the sending off not long before half-time.

“We’re not good enough to be giving away goals like that and to be playing with 10 men. We’ve not won the last few games with 11.

“With 10 it wasn’t impossible because at 2-1 we were keeping it tight and trying to nick something on the break or from a set piece, but it wasn’t to be.”

Keane admits that he’s under pressure after four successive defeat and with the Blues having dropped to 16th but says it comes with the territory: “When you lose matches, it creates pressure but that comes with the job. You know that when you come into it and you’ve got to deal with it.”

Norwich manager Paul Lambert was delighted with Canaries hat-trick hero Grant Holt: “I thought Grant was unplayable at times. I thought him and Chris Martin were a handful right from the off and when those two play the way they can do, we’ve always got a chance.”

You can't blame Keane for O'Dea & Delaneys howler. Those mistakes were not even school boy errors.

Keane can't dance, Keane can't talk, the only thing about him is the way Evans will make him walk!

Poor decision making...... Correct! Down to 10 men and you bring on Colin Healy, the man known for his pace to help attack and to enable him to help get back to defend. Then change from 4-4-1 to 3-4-2 and back to 4-4-1 and change the defence 4 times against good forwards does not help!!!!! Only person with credit today in my opinion was Priskin, who again worked hard, showed neat touches, movement and fight in the right way. Sorry to say it but time for fresh ideas and manager.

What??? Who's fault was the blatant lack of desire and pride to chase the game after half-time when we were going to lose anyway?? Either Keane's instructions or these players clearly don't want to play for this imbecile!!

Poor decisions came from one person off the pitch SO HOPE KEANO and from the players on the pitch why oh why don't they simply kick the ball out than trying to take down and control. !!!

I would have to agree with your comments Roy - the defence made some awful decisions at the wrong times and in the wrong places.

However, the second half shambles with quite baffling substitutions and regular formation changes did nothing positive whatsoever. Not the first time that has been seen either.

18 months in charge and I think we have gone backwards. Time to move on Roy.

You can blame him.

He picked three left sided centre harfs at the back. All have played left back at some point this season. they didnt have a clue what to do.

Play players in there right positions have we ever seen delaney at right centre?
No. So why try it in the most important game of the season?
ALL HIS FAULT IM AFRAID.

Just 6 points from the play-offs but it might as well be 26. If Keane stays we are a Division 1 team next season and imagine if the return fixture in April is the one that puts us down!
While I'd like to see Martin O'Neill or Sean O'Driscoll take over I don't think either would take the step down. The problem is does Clegg know how to go about looking for & approaching a new manager?

Spot on Walk the Wark. Where was the passion, desire and commitment today which you HAVE to show in a derby game whether you win 1-nil or lose by 10!! This ship is rudderless and it's there for all to see. Anyone looking for a reason to keep Keane now is a fool.

Give us our statement tomorrow Evans. Not bothered whether we're manager less for Wednesday night. Put Kiwomya in charge for a week and give us a fighting chance of saving this season with a new man at the healm. Curbs is free and can be here in no time. Like to see Matt Holland get involved with the club again.

I'm sorry whoppit, but that's just dumb, we've given Keane chances after last season, the simple fact is that he's an inept manager.

Keane out and bring someone from the lower leagues in.

warwickblue added 16:58 - Nov 28
We at least deserve a statement from the Club tomorrow - is Keane in 'til the end of the season or is he out? No more rubbish about missed chances and injuries and poor defensive decisions and putting it right next game etc. Just IN or OUT please.

Two stupid mistakes from defenders ultimately cost us, plus Keane's inability to deal with going down to 10 men - Edwards at right back - good one. We never looked like we wanted anything from the game after going down to 10, and subbing priskin for brown at the end was the final straw. Heaviest loss to Norwich and 4 defeats on the bounce for the first time in 30-odd years says it all.

Roy Keane, you have done enough damage already, GET OUT OF OUR CLUB

Keano will get it right given time. Roll on WBA and Swansea. Carling Cup semi finals here we come and 3 points against the taffs. Keanoooo

To those who say it was the players fault, not Keane's, well correct me if I'm wrong but apart from Norris surely every other player that took part today was signed by Keane. It was his team out there that didn't perform.

No room for doubt at all, after 18 months and god knows how many millions we're certainly no better off than we were with Magilton. Worse, I'd say. Time to go for sure, give the new man time to try to salvage something from the season, or at least to see what he needs for next.
