Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Tuesday, 30th Nov 2010 15:07

Town boss Roy Keane says he will field another young side when West Brom come to Portman Road for Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final. The Blues have almost an entire team injured, ineligible or suspended.

Keane said: “We’ll have to go with a young team once again, which I’ve not be pleased about over the last month or two because we’ve played too many youngsters at the same time.

“But we don’t really have a choice tomorrow night as a lot of players are cup-tied, Damien Delaney’s suspended, Márton Fülöp’s struggling with an ankle injury and Gareth McAuley and Mark Kennedy are not available, so we’ll just have to go with the younger boys. It’s not ideal, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

In addition to Fülöp, a doubt with an ankle injury, McAuley (achilles, January) and Kennedy (hamstring, fortnight), Connor Wickham (thigh) is out for another week and Luke Hyam for another fortnight with a hamstring problem. Alan Quinn is not yet ready for a first team return after his groin injury.

Better news is that Tom Eastman should be available after his groin injury, while young midfielder Jamie Griffiths is also a doubt after receiving a bang on the leg in training.

Loanees Rory Fallon, Jake Livermore, Jack Colback and Gianni Zuiverloon are all unavailable having played in the competition for their parent clubs earleir in the season.

Darren O’Dea’s girlfriend is still to give birth to their first child and the on-loan Celtic man could be called away to Scotland between now and Wednesday’s game.

The likes of Jaime Peters and Andros Townsend could return to the starting line-up, while Ronan Murray, Reggie Lambe and Troy Brown are contention for inclusion. Keane has confirmed that Argentinian midfielder Luciano Civelli will again be in his 18, having been in the Blues squad for the first time in 20 months at Norwich on Sunday.

Academy midfielder Caolan Lavery’s knee injury, sustained in the FA Youth Cup defeat to Peterborough last week, is worse than expected and the Northern Irish U21 international will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

less than 10,000 to watch the kids get stuffed by an under strength WBA team.

Can't be any more embarrasing than Sundays performance though.

Keanes last game in charge or will losing at Preston finish the pain?

By the sounds of things we are going to struggle to fill our bench ? Although at least the youngster will play with fight and pride unlike some that seemed disinterested on Sunday!!

At least Keano has a ready made excuse for once on why we are going to get tonked - again !!! He sounds like he is making the excuses even before the game !!!

Hey Keano, what excuses will you use for the Swansea defeat?? Injuries?? 3 games in a week?? Or you have just lost the plot??

Why play these youngsters when we have reliable players with loads of cup match experience? Stead, Garvan, and D Wright should all start, with Pablo or Rhodes off the bench at 60 mins, …oh, hang on a min'…. oh dear…. oh dear oh dear…..what have you done Roy?

I've got my plastic fork — and it's blue!!

Can we field a new manager as well please.

You can't win anything with kids.
Seriously, though, if this injury situation continues for much longer we've had it; we're down. Get in a new manager and start building now for a promotion campaign from League One next season.

Fair enough, we have a long injury list but, in previous comments, we will field 11 players proud to wear an Ipswich Shirt. This match apart and when we are at full strength, i believe we have as good a team as most in the League but way, way too much tinckering with tactics and line-up is causing us problems....unfortunately, this lies with Keane. Remember when we got promoted and finished 4th in the Prem (seems soooooooo long ago) Our strength was stability, a team that knew their responsibilities and got the ball down and attacked.... Very few changes to the starting XI and confidence built.

My starting 11 when everyone is fit would be:

Fulop
Zuverloom Macauley Delaney Oconnor

Edwards Norris Leadbitter Townsend

Wickham Priskin

Enough to take on any Championship Team.

Good luck to the kids, i will be watching it in my lunch hour here in Mexico.....

Keane, sort it out sharpish.

Hope the young lads beat them and are rewarded with an unchanged winning team against Swansea - we'll never go on a run with so much changing, not all Keane's fault I know but he has to keep it as consistent as possible.

If only he wasn't chucking Tamas from striker to left winger to bench and back early doors, we'd have probably recorded a 4-1 sometime and the confidence from that would be in the squad's hearts.

Murphy
Peters, Eastman, Smith, O'Dea
Edwards, Norris, Leadbitter, Townsend
Priskin, Scotland

Maybe Scotland for Livermore if Keane pikes it. JUST GO FOR IT ROY! GIVE US A FEW GOALS TO ENJOY WE'RE STARVING!

I agree with BkueBoots team. RK may be forced to play Eastman in his normal position, and 2 attacking full backs to support the good wide right & left wingers. Civelli to get 20 minutes in the 2nd half. Wow - could be the most naturally balanced side RK has picked this season - forced on him due to unavailablity of other players. We may well get soundly beaten but at least we can have a go with that side

One good thing to come out of this: at least with so few players to choose from the likes of Townsend, Murray and Brown HAVE to play. Is this what it takes for our decent young players to get a chance?
Do us a favour and FORK

So bringing in a new manager will mean all those injured players will suddenly be fit!

I am struggling to understand all those who seem to blame Roy for all the injuries we have

Dont see the point of sacking him. Will not bring Maculey back any quicker and he is the big reason we are leaking goals. We were doing OK until he got injured!

but i feel that he may start murray instead off scotland

and because keanes tacktics are so bad he could leave o connor out put priskin left back troy brown up front and reggie lamb in goal ?
i can see us getting thrashed but with the youngsters in and townsend bk playing maybe we might play with some excitment and shorly we cant loose 5 on bounce can we ??

come on boys do us proud !!

Hello all you Genuine Ipswich Town Supporters, or GITS (copyright B Smallpiece 1969) as we are more widely known! Let's make the West Brom match a watershed, a change of direction in the fortunes of this great club. If you're really made of steel, then stay away from PR to make the powerful point that you are disgusted by what is going on. If you go to watch, then hurl a thousand plastic picnic FORKs on to the pitch and unfurl a FORK banner across the width of the SBR stand. Show Keano and the faceless ones who sadly own this mighty club your anger and your frustration. Ipswich belongs to the fans and has always done so. Previous owners have respected this. The present ones do not. Power to the People! FORK! POMS! COYB!

I'm with you 'whoppit' I really wanted Keano to succeed but he is playing a huge part in ruining our beloved club! This is just another excuse... what a crap attitude to take into the game!
He signed either young players or the 'old codger brigade' that are too near the end of their playing days... I have lost all respect for the man after Sundays debacle and it shows no signs of getting any better now!
Anyway, I will be there tomorrow night and I keep everything crossed that these youngsters play with pride for the shirt they wear... Sunday was a horror show and the lack of conviction or passion was appaulling!
I can handle losing games but the fashion in which we are being turned over so frequently is sickening... COYB's FORK!

So Peters and O connor to be included then? i wonder what these two have done to not get a game in a team thats struggling, o connor proved himself last season and hasnt had a look in, peters is a decent player, better than what we have on the pitch at the moment, and he trys to play decent football!..hopefully Civellei will get a run out....unless hes to attack minded for town these days!

I reckon there will be more in the dug out than in the stadium ..but none the less COYB .....and regretfully FORK!

actually think this could be a half decent team for a change! injuries are not that bad for goodness sake. Midfield we still have more than enough, left wing we have two options, up front a little short without Wickham but he hasnst done much this season, defence well O Connor was first choice last season and got great reviews so why is it so terrible if he has to play???? Peters again played right back a fair amount last year and at the beginning of season when we did so well . so all we are missing is centre backs and yes we miss big Mac but we have O Dea, Brown, Smith, Eastman all who are half decent centre backs. we may even be forced to play a right sided centre back on the right side for a change!!!!!

whoppit added 16:28 - Nov 30
The worst thing is the waiting for Keane to bugger off !!! I know for a fact that once we replace him with an experienced manager who also knows how to man manage, our fortunes will shoot right up again. We DO have some useful players and the right man can mould them into an effective unit. The idiot we have currently is about as much use as rubber lips on a woodpecker.

Where I can c where your coming from small p but is that going to help The best game we have had this year was leeds and one of the reasons was the atmosphere was really good fun maybe running the kids out might b the start of a improvement lets face can it get any worse.i would hope that pr is as full as poss tomorrow and let us all sing our hearts out for the boys with a town win 2-1.on the off chance rk does his normal tactics and subs then we all can all vent our anger to rk and sc and maybe even big boss man might be there.
