Zuiverloon Could Extend Stay With Town
Zuiverloon Could Extend Stay With Town
Tuesday, 21st Dec 2010 10:01

Town are keen to extend Gianni Zuiverloon’s stay at Portman Road, according to reports in the Midlands. The West Brom right-back’s initial month with the Blues is up on January 4th.

Zuiverloon has increasingly impressed during his time with Town after a difficult first game at Norwich and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Blues were looking to keep him for longer.

A further loan looks more likely than a permanent deal with manager Roy Keane having previously conceded that the former Holland U21 international’s price might be too high: “I think he went to West Brom for £3.2 million and put it this way, I don’t think we’d pay that for a full-back. I don’t think we’d pay that for a striker at the moment.”

The 23-year-old recently told Dutch magazine Voetbal International that he hoped to win a move to another Premier League club by doing well with the Blues: “I’m short on match action and I want to be fit when a club is interested in me in January. That was the main reason for me choosing to come to Ipswich Town.”

However, when he signed in late November, the former Heerenveen man left the door open to a longer-term stay in Suffolk: “The loan is until January and then we will see what happens. You never know in football."

Zuiverloon, contracted until next summer although with West Brom having the option of a further year, has so far made four appearances for the Blues, all at right-back, and is yet to score a goal.

Started off appallingly but looked good against Leicester.

I think he needs to start putting in a few more consistent performances before we think of extending.

I for one would give him more time. I think he is improving. I'm wondering how much we will pay fir fallon. Surely not that much? So maybe he would be a good buy as he definatly had a major hand in Scotlands goals.

Always difficult when you join a club well into the season - it's going to take time. I think this guy is a very good player. Well worth extending the loan.

I am pleased Zuiverloon is improving and it might make sense to extend the loan, but really we should be focussing very hard on bringing a proper right back to ITFC. One of Keane's biggest failings this season was neglecting this position and he himself said he tried to "persevere" with Peters and Eastman there. Please let's sign a right back who is available for an affordable fee, whose wages are affordable and who wants to play for Ipswich long term. Emergency loans are just a short term filler.

I'd keep him for sure, will get better and better - exactly what we need, extending will also provide stability to the end of season.

A decent player, who may change his mind about staying if we're moving in the right direction. We need players of this stature (acknowledge he's not had the best start but he's a proven track record and all the signs are there)

Whilst he wears the Town Blue and White, Good luck to him.

Decent player but it's harsh on Peters, who deserves a run of games in the team.

Keep him as long as we can. He has greatly improved ove his Norwich performance. He gets forward and would be an intertesing pairing with Jamie Peters in front of him. Two fast wing players on the right all of a sudden, worth a punt in the last 15 minutes of any game we are winning.

No better than rosenior, and we could have signed him up permanently for free in the summer and probably on lower wages. Instead we go a third of the season right back-less and then loan a £3.2M player who we will never be able to keep, who's only playing for us to get a move to the premier league. Makes sense to me. Keep up the excellent work keano!

Let him go - too many loanees. Play Peters, maybe buy a full back. Could do with a consistent performer there who gets forward. Oh didn't we have one of those for free in David Wright?

Decent player. Doesn't want to play for us so let him go. I admire his honesty

Some great rightback arguements from the pro-keaners earlier in the season:-

Selling David Wright is ok because the great Roy Keane will have a better replacement lined up. (Ooooops. We forgot that he's clueless.)

Wright isn't attacking enough for a full back. (we'll use a cb there instead who will never cross the half way line)

We need to trim the wages (so that keane can afford overpaid underperforming cast offs instead).

HelP us all

Looked great against Leicester, just a bit more attacking than Eastman.
