Doncaster Face Battle to Make Sure Town Game Goes Ahead
Doncaster Face Battle to Make Sure Town Game Goes Ahead
Wednesday, 22nd Dec 2010 11:04

Doncaster Rovers chairman John Ryan says his club’s groundstaff “have it all on” to make sure Town’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium goes ahead next Tuesday as planned. Earlier in the month Doncaster’s home derby with Barnsley was called off, but Friday’s match against Middlesbrough beat the freeze.

Ryan said: “Groundstaff are going to have to work hard to keep the [Christmas] games on but our boys did brilliantly for us last Friday night.

“Our home game is on Tuesday, December 28th against Ipswich Town and, right now, I would say they will have it all on to get that game played — but it will not be for the want of trying!”

Town’s Boxing Day home game against Watford is unlikely to be in any danger with the pitch currently under cover.

Bad weather forecast this morning for the Met Office for Xmas Eve and Xmas Day for the East.

I think Boxing Day could be touch and go.

If it goes ahead and we lose, we can always write a letter of complaint to the football league!!!!!!!

The met office i'm looking at suggests different. Above freezing and no precip on Boxing day, chance of a light flurry on Christmas day.

In defence of MaySixth... it was on National Radio (R2) this morning that the Met Office were giving out a severe weather warning for Christmas Eve/Day for East Anglia. However, they did say that this was not a certainty and that things may change over the next couple of days.

I think the bad weather is due in the west of the region this time, so we should be ok?

Well, the good news is that if we don't play, we can't lose.
The bad news is that it will prolong keanes tenure into the jan transfer window where he will waste yet more money and take us more steps backwards. The longer he's here, the worse it's going to get. :-( very sad face

The problem at Doncaster are the temperatures and not the snow. I believe for a while last night it was Minus 10 C in the air, probably nearer Minus 15 C on the grass. Looks dry up to the day of the match, but temperatures barely reach ZERO every day. The pitch must be like concrete, it would take a couple of days with temperatures around 5 or 6 degrees to soften it - that isn't going to happen. So unless Donnie have undersoil heating then the game may well be off.

It would be nice if Doncaster could let us know one way or the other so we can all get our xmas bank holiday plans in order.
