Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?

With Roy Keane sacked 20 months into his Portman Road tenure, who would you like to replace him?

Paul Jewell is the early front-runner, Chris Hughton, Gary Megson and Alan Curbishley have all been linked, but who do you want?

Curbs has been on a retainer for a while now and lives in Woodbridge almost next door to RK - so I guess it'll be him

Hughton, Poyet or Curbishley.

Not totally devastated if it is Jewell though - did a good job with Wigan

Lightning Boy - do you still have the covers on your sofa at home? like to keep old things fresh? Burley and Magilton have both had their time.

Big fat Sam Yous? - and you thought the ground was empty now

with you on MON as he gets results, although I think we'd have a similar situation to Keane - he plays attritional/boring football - gets the ball forward quickly (some would say hoof ball) and talks a little too direct for some peoples liking (I actually quite like that in a manager and liked it in Keane).

Houghton and Wilkins double team would be fantastic or either individually - curbishley might be ok, although it took him 5 years to get Charlton up (will fans give him the time) and even after that they were a yo-yo club.

Paul Jewell is a bit of a risk, but seemed to play football the right way where he had the players to carry out the task - this will be our biggest problem going forward.

How about Alan Shearer as a totally left field suggestion - following the path of Sir Bobby (missing out Fulham!) - I don't want him, but could he be a candidate? Marcus seemingly likes high profile as it keeps the club and his investment in the news...!

Aware I haven't sided on anyone in particular - but that becuase I haven't actually got a say in it, so what's the point!

I'll back whoever, as I did Keane - Although I agree it was time for him to go - so just get it done - settle the team - give him a little cash (January is not the time to buy) and the contracts sorted - too many players contracts running out.

Whoever it is has some work to do!

Glenn Hoddle for somebody totally left field - actually I'll stick my name to that one - I think he was a class footballer and a very good manager - if a little mental!

Looks like Paul Jewell according to bookies and sky sports news. Would have liked Doncasters manager or Ray Wilkins, anybody who believes in attractive passing football. I need to be entertained. Paul Jewell has had success at Bradford and Wigan but his Derby tenure is a bit of a concern, were there extenuating circumstances ? It will be more high energy under him when what we desperately need is a creative midfield which would maximise what is already a decent squad. Anyway whoever it is he needs to be given a fair chance and all of our support.

As long as it aint Curbishley or Jewell, I ain't too bothered as long as they can turn things around. But heh Martin O'Neil would be good I think?

Would like to see Chris Hughton, but Paul Jewell has more experience getting teams out of this division. If not him then I wouldn't mind Lee Clark, from Huddersfield, or even more hopefully Sam Allardyce.

But I wouldnt go for Paul Jewell. He did well at Wigan about 10 years ago. He made a big mess at the Rams and put Derby County back a few years. He undid all the great work Billy Davis had done in a few months! He left a very large squad, millions wasted and a huge wage bill. He had Robbie Savage in reserves for ages!! Throw in the sex tape scandal too.
Its took a lot of hard work by Nigel Clough to get the team and club back in sound financial shape and playing decent football.
At least Jewell likes to play a decent style of football, direct but with more attacking instinct. He is a fan of the big centre forwards. He paired Ellington with Jason Roberts to form a bruising forward line at Wigan. He could get the best out of Wickham.

Allardyce is a no go for me too. If people dont like Keanes long ball direct style of play than Big Sam isnt going to be much better. Big Sam is arrogant, loves himself and irritating. There is something very dodgy about him too, there were whispers of him taking bungs for suspect transfers a few years ago at Bolton.

Curbishly would be a good choice but would take time. Its been a while since he made a impression. I think West Ham may have dented his confidence. Than again a club like Ipswich is his best level. A decent championship club with potential.

Personaly I would like to see Chris Hughton in charge. He is a brilliant tactican, man manager and a very shrewd operator in transfer market. He can also get the best out of youth players and senior players alike. He is quite and doesnt say much in the media. He plays good style of football and has a good reputation within the footballing world. He knows the Championship, Premierleague and has coaching experience at international level. Brought through players like Andy Carroll, Williamson and got the best out of Nolan and Barton. Could be the ideal fit for us!!!!!

I think ME has to get a manager with experience who has been successful. O'driscoll is a good manager but will he get you to the prem and get the club stabilised? Don't know. These are the big no no's
1. Gary megson
2.Darren ferguson
3. poyet & Tarrico not enough experience
4. Gareth southgate not proven yet

No ex-Town managers for me - would tarnish any previously good reputation if things went wrong this time round.

Purely on preference, not likelihood:

1. Martin O'Neill
2. Alan Curbishley
3. Paul Jewell
4. Steve Coppell
5. Martin Jol

If I had the choice and he was available and affordable I would say Martin O'Neill although I understand he has family issues at the moment. O'Neill went to Leicester so why not us - yes he was a budgie but he can be forgiven. If we can afford Keane I am sure we can afford O'Neill. I don't think that will happen so I would go Curbs with Holland. Curbs does not play scintillating football but gets results. If not either of those two I am not sure. Jewell is OKish and at the end of the day it won't be worse than what we have been watching. Poyet and Taricho would be refreshing but with Brighton flying and a new stadium on the horizon I doubt they can be prised away. My best mate says what about George Graham who wants one last shot at management and Stuart Houston - well we wouldn't lose many games would we. Vital decision but def not Megson or Burley.
