Bullard Set to Be Unveiled as Jewell's First Town Signing
Bullard Set to Be Unveiled as Jewell's First Town Signing
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2011 23:19

Hull City's Jimmy Bullard looks set to be unveiled as Paul Jewell's first Town signing on Thursday with the midfielder understood to have completed his loan switch to the Blues. TWTD was first to reveal that the 32-year-old was at Portman Road this morning for talks regarding his half-season spell which sees him reunited with Jewell, who was previously his boss at Wigan.

Sources at Hull City confirmed Town’s interest in the ex-West Ham, Peterborough and Fulham man earlier in the week with the Tigers desperate to off-loan Bullard’s £45,000-a-week wage. The one-time Gravesend and Northfleet player joined Hull from Fulham for £5 million during the Tigers’ stint in the Premier League and is contracted until 2013.

As with previous loan deals involving players on Premier League wages, such as last season’s recruitment of Daryl Murphy and David Healy, Town are likely to have agreed to pay only a proportion of the Londoner’s salary with reports in East Yorkshire suggesting the Blues will be paying only £10,000-a-week towards Bullard's salary.

Speaking after last night's game at Arsenal, chief executive Simon Clegg was typically taciturn regarding transfer speculation but told TWTD that the first deals of the transfer window were close: “I think that we are near on a couple of situations and I would expect people to be hearing some movement on what our intentions are over the next couple of days.”

Earlier in the week, Jewell revealed that the club had made two bids with Bullard and Luton's Andy Drury believed to be the players involved.

Bullard looks likely to make his Town debut when the Blues travel to Derby next Tuesday.

Excellent news. A genuine playmaker at last.

Surely this means either Leadbitter or Norris will be on their way? Can't see either of them happy warming the bench.

Good! At the end of the day if we couldn't afford him we wouldn't be signing him so...

Awesome signing! Will bring class and calmness to our buil up play and passing and he can take set-pieces!

Genuinly excited!

If Leadbitter and Norris arent leaving maybe this signals the start of a new formation under Jewell?

Very good player, if we do keep norris i think leadbitter will be getting a lot of splinters from that bench. Hope we get a couple of buys in before deadline day. Right back as a couple of people have mentioned and a back up centre half.

Norris will just play on the right as he has done last few matches. May see Healy relegated to the bench though, which is unfortunate, OR, and this is a big OR, we're going 3-5-2.

brilliant news, im guessing our midfield will consist of Martin and Norris on the flans, and Bullard and Leadbitter through the centre possibly with the exclusion of Martin it looks a very strong championship midfield...

Good signing if true. If only it was before the arsenel match.

Any clue on what wages we will pay? I just hope his wages don't cause problems in the dressing room. Isn't our top earner on £12,000? How pissed off would you be if a loan signing was earning over 3 times more than you.

If we do sign him, then I can see some good times ahead, especially at set-pieces. Play-offs anyone?

well at least it will be an end to the daft signals Leadbitter continues to perform before he f@@ up the dead ball delivery!

1. Both Arms raised = hit the 1st defender
2. Bounces the ball x3 = hit the 1st defender
3. Raises one arm up = hit the 1st defender
4. scratches arse, picks nose and waves to the crowd = hit the 1st defender

...I ask you ????

Looks like we are signing Duray as well and have a feeling that Bullard is a stop gap till the end of season when Jewell will be looking for a replacement for Norris.

Think we will hear that Norris is off to Portsmouth, hoping not as Norris does a good job on the right wing and with bullard next to him think he will only get better.

Could be the end for Norris.
Bullard could be a filler until we get a permanent replacement.

Sorry KarlosFandangol- said the same thing!

Norris and Bullard are two totally different typoes of MF. In fact they would compliment one another . Unlike Norris: Leadbitter, who are too similar.

...and Id sell Leadbitter at the drop of a hat . He flatters to deceive now !

Pleased with this signing, but fear Norris is now off to Portsmouth.
Portsmouth have got a bargain if thats the case.

Examine the signs. Norris is on the verge of leaving.

Bullard will be a good acquisition, but like others here I am concerned that this will lead to the premature departure of Norris.
Please don't sell him for a quarter of a million........

Norris isn't reassuring the fans, which is a bad sign. We've all seen this before.....
