Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Swindon Boss Wilson Confirms Austin at Portman Road Holding Talks
Thursday, 27th Jan 2011 16:32

Swindon boss Danny Wilson has confirmed that Robins striker Charlie Austin has been at Portman Road today holding talks with the Blues, as reported by TWTD earlier this afternoon. Town and the Wiltshire club have agreed a fee for the 21-year-old believed to be somewhere between £1.5 million and £2 million, including the usual appearance and achievement clauses.

Wilson said: "We've had a bid accepted from them and we've given Charlie permission to talk to Ipswich. What the outcome at this moment in time is I don't know. He's down there at the moment.

"It could be an all day job, it could be tomorrow, it might not happen at all and in a selfish way I hope it doesn't.

"But I can't really see that happening. Particularly now with the transfer window closing, clubs are now looking to get the player they've been tracking for most of the season.

"If Charlie does go, then we'll wish him all the best because he's exceeded everyone's expectations and has done fantastically well for us."

Blackpool are also believed to have made a bid, while Southampton and Burnley have been linked but Town are so far the only club whose offer has been accepted.

We understand Town have offered Austin a three-and-a-half-year contract at Portman Road.

Graet news we have a manager who looks down the leagues for exciting talent. If Austin scores all those goals for a team like swindon then im sure he will get chances here especially with bullard in the team. Great intent and hope its not the last signing if it happens

Don't know a lot about this lad but shocked at the level of hype for a League 1 youngster. What am I missing?

Please sign him! This is the sort of player we need - young and hungry to step up a level. And he gets goals! Will be so chuffed if he signs

Great news we are looking down the leagues for talent and he certinatly has that. His goals record speaks for itself especially the position that swindon are in. He will definatly get chances here with bullard pulling the strings. And at 6ft 2 a good target man. Hopefully these 2 are the start of a bright new future.

Hopefully this will give us the option of playing 4-4-2, four first team strikers and young Ronan Murray if needed

JayITFC....
This player is awesome at his current level and proven to be able to find the net.
Although this is a step up he should in my opinion prove to be a great addition to the squad... And he is coming into his prime rather than well past it like Scotland for instance (and I do like the old man but he is way past his best like when he was at swansea years ago)
This could well be the all too elusive striker that we have needed for years and years!!!

JayITFC- first look at his stats! Then his age and hopefully that gives you his potential. He has scored 17 goals this season already with a struggling side... Has proven his ability at every level he has been (appreciate it's still low)... SOOOO NERVOUS!! Please sign!

A signing that shows a lot of potential and proven in the lower leagues. But can he cut it in the championship. Hopefully find out soon. Way too much hype from people on this site though.

Jay ITFC- his goal record at any level is exceptional. Still young so has potential to become a better player. We are doing this for the same reasons that arsenal are desperate to sign oxlade-chamberlain I.e. He could be worth 5 times the current asking price in a couple of years
