Connor Wickham's goal against Sheffield United on Saturday is being hailed as one of the best ever scored at Portman Road, but which other goals are worthy of joining it on the list?

I agree with springfield, Sergei Baltacha's debut goal sticks in my memory, a rare jewel during John Duncan's reign which as far as I'm concerned was worse than Keanes time in charge! I've searched about for a video the goal but the best I could come up with was this one -
It's a documentry of about Sergei and is full of ITFC 'nostalgia' - the old North Stand, spiked fences and such 'legends' as Steve 'Gumby' Palmer....

Looking at the Mariner goal again reminds me how he always looked kind of shocked when they went in... like he'd just woken up.

I think (it was a long time ago() mine would be Paul Mariner against Aston Villa January 3rd 1981. I think it was mariner? It invovled about 7 Ipswich players from our half to theirs without them touching it. I seem to remember it was goal of the month on MOTD

Either of Dalian Atkinsons against Middlesbrough in the 4-0 win in 1988...amazing what a transformation that guy...from a skinny winger one season to a beefy centre forward the next and boy could he run and strike the ball

Bent's winner against Wigan is my favourite.
My favourite ever game.

I echo Arc's post. Well said.

I still harbour deep disappointment about that season. Where I live now I am surrounded by Villians and I have to begrudgingly defer to them about pipping us. As arc says we were b***** marvellous that year. Too many games at the end of the season did for us

Beattie's against Real Madrid, 1st ever UEFA cup match played at PR, a thirty yard fee-kick, if the net hadn't stopped it somebody in Churchmans would have killed

Can't believe no one has suggested...

Alex Matthie's hat-trick against the budgies, or
Danny Hayne's 'in off his ar*e' goal against the budgies (at Carrow Rd), or
Big Brian Gunn's 'Moment' - should need no further description!

Hmm... spot the theme!

Although it was against us; Alan Hinton's shot from 40 yards for Nottingham Forest in 1963/4 (I think) season. He was on the left wing and it went straight into the far top corner - Churchmans end , and this was with the old heavy footballs.
Also the second goal ,from Ray Crawford, when we beat Villa in 1962 to win the League - greatest moment in our history.

Ian Marshall .... first-time volley into the bottom corner from just outside the area at Charlton. Can't remember when but what a goal.

Taricco goals against ManUre in 98 and Palace in 99 are stand outs for me. Also Thommo's last minute winner at Sarfend in 1992 and Venus' blockbuster of a freekick at home to Watford in 98-99.
Connor's from yesterday was right up there though, perhaps in years to come we will have a selection of his special goals to go on the top goals DVD's with the likes of Taricco and Beattie?

cant believe no one has mentioned gavin Johnsons 25 yard screamer in our 1st game in the premier league, V's Villa, was an absolute peach, and important as it was a springboard for a decent season.

Mariner against Liverpool at PR about 1977 I think. Corner came in, it was headed up in the air and PM came steaming in on the angle of the 6 yard box, rose what seemed like 4 feet in the air and sent a bullet header straight in the top corner - Ray Clemence no chance. We won 1-0. Don't think there is a video of it, but it's stamped on my memory - would love to see it again.

To "grumpy old man". I think you've got the wrong match. The one you are probably thinking of was against Locomotiv Leipzig in the same year. Late winner with a fantastic strike. We beat Real Madrid with an own goal, scored at the North Stand End.

My favourite was also from Beattie. Against Leeds mid-seventies. Scored a free kick into North Stand goal from almost on the half way line!
We will never see a player like him again.

So hard to pick just one! Anyone remember Gavin Johnson's header against Liverpool in the cup? Don't recall the season though. Marcus's second against Bolton, obviously Jim's third in the first leg. But the ultimate was Reuser's in the play off final, I could've cried with the realisation we were back in the Prem League.
Think it all depends on your age though really!! Some of Kiwomya's were ace. I remember the one when he lobbed the keeper and then did that schoolboy dance towards the camera on MOTD!!

If you are referring to the September 1973 first round EUFA Cup match...yes we won 1-0 but it was actually a Mick Mills shot from outside of the penalty area that was deflected into the net. Unfortunately for Mick the goal was credited as an o.g. as Swede says. The goal was at the Chrchman's end however. I remember it well since I was back in Ipswich on vacation and it was the only game that I saw that year.

Are you sure it wasn't in 1973 season - Reverend Green, in the Billiard Room with the lead piping...?
