Town defender Damien Delaney has been named in the Championship Team of the Week for his display in the Blues’ 3-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

A swallow does not make a summer, nor does it warrant another contract.

Increasingly becoming our most consistent performer. Well done Damien, keep playing like this and it will be impossible not to give you a contract.

Surprised Wickham isn't in there. Yes, his goal was amazing, but he contributes a lot that goes un-noticed as well.

How anyone can consider Mc as better than Del I have no idea
Del organises the defence, dives in to block all tackles, Mc? well he heads it and runs backwards.

Fair enough - he scored one and made one. Not bad for a central defender & a clean sheet too

I've got to say that I think keeping Delaney and McAuley together is crucial if we are to kick on next year. However, I think that McAuley is definitely the organiser at the back. If Delaney is out then I think we can cope in the Championship as Smith can come in and we still look reasonably solid. However, when McAuley is out we look incredibly weak as Dealney struggles to gel with the likes of Smith, Brown and O'Dea. Look what happened at Carrot road, and it is no coincidence that we went on our losing streak this season when he was out injured.

So nothing to do with Keane then Danlyles?

I dont think you can blame Del at all, you say Mac organises it - watch del compared to Mac and you'll see who is the one telling who and where to go, and also, would you not feel a tad dodgy wtih O'Dea next to you?!!!!
I think we'll see a replacement for Mac and see st ledger and Del together.

Don't get me wrong superblueflude, I think that Keane turned this club into a shambles, however, over the period we are discussing Keane was a constant (largely crap), while McAuley and Delaney are the variables under consideration. Put them together and we look solid, remove either and we look weaker. However, based on results and from what ive seen we looked stronger when McAuley was partnered with an alternative compared to when Delaney was. This could be partly down to the fact that McAuley is a right sided centre back, which makes him better suited to partnering Smith or O'Dea, where as Delaney is often shifted on his unnatural right side. Either way, there isn't alot between the two

i prefer him to Macualey and younger too. He doesnt work well with Smith as both left footed so tend to drift over to the same side of the pitch. Think he did ok with Brown who for me is a very good prospect at right CB and likes the ball at his feet as well as being good in the air, ideal in new set up.

not bad for a player who was originally meant to be our answer at left back, proved fairly inept there, so well done DD, stay, please

Delaney is easily our best defender, its so obvious to see that! Plus he's still got a few years left in the tank at this level. Sign him up!

At the moment I want him to stay and if that's what PJ wants then I think he will. But what if PJ has someone else in mind? Could be that he is going change a few things. However I think Delaney has got a touch of class about him and could further develop into a club legend.

I hope we do sign him up
