Town Would Allow Scotland to Rejoin Swansea Tuesday, 8th Feb 2011 22:51
TWTD understands that Town are willing to allow Jason Scotland to move on loan to his former club Swansea. The Swans’ interest in the 31-year-old, who was at the Liberty Stadium between 2007 and 2009, first surfaced last month with manager Brendan Rodgers subsequently confirming that he could move for the Trinidad and Tobago international.
Scotland, who is yet to start a game since the change of manager at Portman Road, is understood to have met with new boss Paul Jewell and been told that Town will not stand in his way if he wants to rejoin the Swans.
Swansea are unlikely to be in a position to pay Scotland’s entire Town wage and as with previous loan deals — Lee Martin’s spell at Charlton, for example — the Welshmen will probably pay only a significant proportion of his salary. If the clubs are able to negotiate a deal, a loan could be a precursor to a permanent switch in the summer.
Scotland, a £750,000 signing from Wigan in the summer, has made 22 starts and seven sub appearances for Town, scoring seven goals, all at Portman Road.
Town’s willingness to allow the Trinidadian to leave would suggest that manager Paul Jewell has a striking target in mind, having narrowly failed to land Swindon’s Charlie Austin during the transfer window, the 21-year-old eventually joining Burnley.
If Scotland, who is also believed to be interesting three other Championship sides, were to move on, the Blues’ only out-and-out strikers would be Tamás Priskin, Connor Wickham and youngster Ronan Murray, although Lee Martin and Jaime Peters have both played as a second striker in the past.
Aside from Austin, the only other striker mentioned in connection with Town since Jewell took over at Portman Road was Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith, who the new Blues boss watched in action shortly after taking over as manager.
I do like Scotland and would be a shame to see him leave, but if we get the same amount as we payed for him and a decent replacement like Mackail-Smith then we are laughing. As i said, Scotland is decent and i am fond of him but there is better out there, and i believe someone like Mackail-Smth can score goals for us. COYB
I don't think he'll go anywhere until a replacement is sorted...I think he's done the job for us while he's been here though.Wouldn't mind seeing him stay in his current role.
Thats a shame I thought he was really good! Play 442 Jewell and play Priskin and Scotland together it's amazing! Change the team around a bit! Play Peters up front!
I think Scotland is not given enough credit for what he has done for us, esp when Keane was running the team with the shiet team choices. We had very little chances made when Keane was here and Scotland made so little into something. I remember the game against the swans we barely had any chances but him and Priskin worked like magic and i remember he nearly scored just outside the box, muscled his way through 2 players, skipped another and shot a curler into the left hand side of the goal but amazingly saved by the keeper. This is the sort of stuff he's still got, experience, strength and an eye for goal.
Yes I know he's missed some other chances but on a ratio he's done good for us, be a shame if we lose him. Plus every team needs a player who can't speak in interviews :) Anyone heard him speak? Absolutely couldn't understand a single word he's saying :P
to let scotland go on loan would be a mistake as far as im concerned, he is not every supporters cup of tea i know, however he is a player that can prove more than handy at this level in my opinion........ he is our leading (league )goalscorer for a start, that aside i feel he can/does contribute far more than that, he works hard and is strong.
I'd let him go, as after all this time he still doesn't look match fit. i think there are lots better out there. as for all oyu moaning about Priskin he is not a target man so why pump the ball up to him when he has no chance of winning it, just as we did in the first half against Sheffield, thats not his game play it in to feet or down the channels then we will see the best of him just like the home game at arsenal!!!!!!!!!!!!
In total agreement HKBlue, Scotland hasn't been given enough credit. With 2 first team strikers (Wickham and Priskin) it seems suicide to send him out on loan. What if Priskin gets injured? Personally I don't feel Ronan Murray is ready for regular games and Caolan Lavery is not yet ready for the first team. He has scored 7 goals for us this season and in most games has worked hard on and off the ball. In his first season at Swansea he took time to fit in, in his second season he was sensational. Why do you think so many Championship Clubs are interested in him if he isn't good?
To get this straight: We lost that Dutch guy at fullback, Colback,Townsend,Fallon (A STRIKER!!!!) and Livermore (5 players out) We bring in Bullard and recall Martin (2 players in) Scotland is now off on loan We are now TWO strikers down (what other Championship Teams don't have 4 strikers??) Sensible Management? Before he gets fired of Scotland we should have TWO solid strikers in. My suggestion is Nolita (Barcelona) and Jamie Taylor (Eastbourne Borough). How many league goals have Wickham,Murray and Priskin scored between them this season?(Answer- not enough-my guess is that Scotland has scored more than all 3 put together but hes not good enough for us so off to promotion chasing Swansea)
Unbelievable decision, allowing our BEST striker to leave, Liverpool expressed interest last week in him,but not good enough for us. Mark my words and mark them well, this will come back to haunt us. We are allowing a player who could be a frontman for Arsenal, Liverpool or Wigan leave! Scotland is class,my fav player by miles. Terrifies defences with his strength and speed and works like crazy all game. Very angry if he leaves.
I would keep him. Jewell says our squad is small. Noone should leave until the Summer, then I would have a pretty big shake up. Murphy, Quinn, Eastman, O'Dea, Scotland, Lisbie, Kennedy (36 years old) all out. Buy Bullard a right back and a striker
I would keep him too. Paul Jewell has mentioned a number of times that our squad is small. We lost Fallon and are low on strikers. Scotland leaving is not a good idea, 2 strikers isn't enough in this division. Buying Bullard may take all our money VanIsleBlue! better to try to agree a season long loan!
I can't imagine this happening,Scotland is too important to our team. One of our best 3 players. On his day can be a worldclass matchwinner. Frightening ability on the ball and easily the best finisher we have. He is a poacher and deadly in the area.

Kuqi was fantastic when here first time round, but is not what we need at the moment. Someone mobile, who plays on the shoulder of the last defender rather than a large target man.
look those of you get your knickers in a twist we dont know anything yet! I am sure if Scotland has been told he can go on loan it will be only if and when we can get a replacement in. Jewell seems to like a 451 formation which i am not too sure would totally suit scotland, he is better with a target man just behind him who can lay the ball off to him in the box. Also he is 32 so if we can replace with some young blood who will be the future and sell Scotland in the summer whilst he is still worth some money then for me good business. That said 7 iin 22 is 1 in 3 that isnt actually a bad return, puts him on 14 for end of season if he manages to get into the team. I think its a bit more personal too, some players just dont settle at clubs and i have a funny feeling that maybe the case with Jason. I dont think we can say he doesnt look match fit though, i just think that is his style of football a fox in the box who isnt exactly a speed merchant, he was the same when so successful at Swansea before, deceptive as looked slow but a killer finish.
Wow , I love some of you on here - already slagging off 'the management' . I think some are just not happy unless they are unhappy ... relax . Jewell has made some great changes in style and approach - This is ; a) Not confirmed b) If it were I am sure Jewell will have a replacement

There are lots of if and buts in that post. Paul Jewell has done well for us so far, changed the way we play, Edwards to right back, Wickham left wing, Call Martin back, played Civelli. It could be possible that he cant see Scotland fitting in to his style of play, I dont see Scotland as a lone striker. He may be looking to replace Priskin with someone who puts the ball in the net more, and have Priskin as one of the subs, With Wickham on the left if we switch to 442 we have a striker already on the pitch. Like Scotland think he has done a job for us but he is a very expensive reserve. The Peterborough lad, know alot of Posh fans and they all say he is very ggod and could do a job for us, as for Boyd from Peterborough they say he plays about 1 good game every 4 but when he does have a good game he is unplayable.
Decent Striker for us, i prefer priskin and wickham. As it stands our back up striker is our top goal scorer, which cant be a bad thing. PJ surely knows he cant leave untill we have a replacement. If he goes out on a loan i would want to agree a price for him in the summer. Like how plymouth did with Fallon.
