Tune for Town Deadline Extended
Tune for Town Deadline Extended
Thursday, 10th Feb 2011 10:21

Tom Hark by the Piranhas and The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger have both been used as Town’s goal celebration music in recent seasons but now the search is on for a local artist or band to create a new piece of music to accompany the inevitable post-goal jumping around and screaming. Six tracks can now be heard on the Supporters’ Club website and the deadline for submitting further entries has been extended.

With music copyright laws changing, clubs are facing increased demands for fees and royalties, therefore Town and a number of other clubs are looking to provide their own music for goal celebrations.

This is an opportunity not only to give Blues fans a new piece of celebration goal music, but also provides a budding or established artist or band a great chance to gain media attention and put themselves on the musical map locally.

Those interested in providing material, which should consist of a piece of music about 30-45 seconds long, should send it to Barry Calver, who is on the Supporters' Club's media committee, at the address below, before February 28th 2011.

After this cut-off date, depending on the number received, the entries will be played at half-time in two or three home games later in the season to gain supporters’ general opinion.

Town will then call on fans to make the final decision by casting their votes via the matchday programme and various websites with no music at all amongst the options.

The six entries so far can be heard on the Supporters’ Club site here. The tracks are Let’s Go to Town and Portman Pulse, both by recent The Naked Football Show guest Asa Jennings, Let’s Go to Town On It and The Blue Town Riot by Johnnie Taylor, Lungs by Simon Wilson from the band Ideals and Tractor Boys Theme by Mark Topham.

All entries to be sent on a CD to:

How about offering an incentive to get people singing? Perhaps we could offer half price pies at the interval to the noisiest section of the crowd?

everythign thats wrong with the modern game.. the most excitign part of the match, completely drummed out by loud noise of no meaning - even if you play 'a local artist'.. watch the old games and highlights and hear the crowds roar after a goal, rather than bloody Tom Hark..

The deadlines been extended presumably due to poor turnout.. why the hell can they not just let us cheer?!?

apparently there's going to be a no music at all option. Everyone who thinks the noise after a goal should be made by the fans should get behind that one.

Who on earth comes up with these ideas ???
Wouldn't the most obvious requirement be a tune that someone ACTUALLY KNOWS.
I've got a better idea - don't bother with any music.

It was interesting at the Jewell's first home game against Doncaster there was no music at all after the goals. Much better without it in my opinion & I'd hoped he'd put his foot down and got rid of it. Obviously not :(

Why can't it be just the start of singing the blues? I'd prefer that!

From those listed, Let's Go to Town On It by Johnnie Taylor is okay, pretty unique and catchy, I can hear the north stand signing along to it. However if there is a "no music" option I will be voting for that.

My personal choice is no music! But out of all the choons available, I think Asa Jennings' "Let's Go To Town" is probably my favourite.

This is slightly digressing, but what we really need is an ANTHEM. Wet Sham have their Bubbles, Man City have Blue Moon, Stoke have Delilah, and our feathered friends have their awful (but always popular and well-sung) On The Ball City. Other clubs have various anthems, whatever happened to ours?? Edward Ebeneezer is a good one (but hard to get going) - any other thoughts? Something with BLUE in the title or lyrics would be a good start, lol.

Cut the music and bring on the cheering.
Never was a fan of bloody goal music.

LET US MAKE OUR OWN NOISE.

Hopefully the powers that be at the club will hear this (no pun intended!)

This has really annoyed me...we are gonna look stupid to other fans/teams when some unheard of song comes on over the PA. Would much prefer we had nothing, just fans making the atmosphere. Not really into bands anyway, dont really see how that type of music can get you motivated etc. Much prefer some euphoric dance music. 1st choice tho as most would agree, we create the atmosphere...no music at all

Please not "Lets go to town", its an ok tune, but not a goal celebration tune.

We will look a complete bunch of knobs singing la la la la la lets go to town everytime we score

i agree with that if options are not very good i'd rather have nothing

Not being funny, but they are all rubbish.
I'm all for the crowd making their own noise and jubilation when town bag a goal :)

Fear of Drowning by British Sea Power. Lyrics would work really well.

Why is this even being considered? Who at the club thinks this is a good idea, and could they explain why we have goal music?
Thankfully though we're not the only club who have adopted this joke.

Singing the Blues is inappropriate. One only sings the blues when one is sad. All goal music is terrible. We don't need any. Let's just cheer and have no music at all.

Has been great recently without the music, and it's reappearance has been disappointing. Some marketing wonk at the club obviously thinks that it improves the atmosphere but in my opinion it does completely the opposite. Nothing against these particular songs but why ruin the most enjoyable moments of the game with a jingle? No-one needs any help celebrating a Town goal.

lets just do away with the goa; celebration music, we dont need it. oh, while we on about music, it really is time the club realised that singing the blues is way past its sell by date, & stop playing it every game. not as if hardly ne1 sings it nemore, or even clap 2 it. so scrap it. also, why are we the only club who continually change the music the teams come out to. just stick with the tune we started with this seaon, & dont change it again. please

I've said for years that the theme tune to Some Mothers Do Ave Em should be played in the event of an opposing own goal. Other than that, Pablo's "Benny Hill" music of a few years ago was funny. But in the event of copyright issues, no music please.
