Jewell: Swansea Nowhere Near on Scotland
Jewell: Swansea Nowhere Near on Scotland
Thursday, 10th Feb 2011 14:16

Boss Paul Jewell says Swansea have to improve their offer to the Blues if they are to be successful in their attempt to re-sign striker Jason Scotland on loan. The Town manager says he doesn’t particularly want Scotland to leave but won’t stand in his way if he wants to join his former club on loan.

Jewell confirmed that he has spoken to both Swans manager Brendan Rodgers and their chairman Huw Jenkins, despite the latter denying any contact between the clubs: “If you talk to Brendan Rodgers, yes, if you talk to the chairman, no, but I’ve spoken to both of them. Brendan Rodgers rang me on Tuesday because there was some stuff in the newspapers.

“I said I didn’t particularly want to lose Jason, but if any player doesn’t want to be here and the offer’s right, then I’ll listen to it.

“So I rang their chairman and he called me back and I told him what the deal is and I’ve heard nothing since.”

The Town boss, who would ideally like to add to his squad before allowing Scotland leave, says the loan package that Swansea put together is far from acceptable: “The offer they’ve made is nowhere near. We aren’t going to be paying Jason wages for him to go and play for Swansea.

“If they’re serious about getting promotion and they want a player, they’re going to have to put their hands in their pockets.”

Scotland is unlikely to move on this week even if the clubs do come to a deal with first choice striker Tamás Priskin - along with keeper Márton Fülöp - not yet back from international duty with Hungary, while Ronan Murray picked up a slight thigh strain after scoring two goals in the reserves’ 3-0 victory against Oxford last night. Aside from Murray, there are no new injuries.

Well done Paul.Ignore the penny pinching. We always seem to be done over a barrel with wages and loans out

Swansea taking the p##s and clearly trying it on when they read the papers ..... Unlucky Jason , looks like your staying and will have to try harder !

Keep him!
There's noone better available now and he'll do okay when he gets on! Noones fault that he's not playing - you can't change a winning team he'll get his chance when we lose a game or switch to 442 - and I think he'll do well!

I applauded the honesty of Keane but i have to admire the honesty of Paul Jewell far more. Tell it how it is so there's no question of newspaper's running away with a story.

As I said previously, with the service to the front now from Bullard etc, lets see if he can rise to the occasion. Certainly not the fastest on two legs, but certainly has an eye for goal.

Intersting how different PJ is to keano. It seems the latter really didn't get involved in negotiations at all; it was like he said 'I'd like this player' and Cleggy (or whoever) was left to sort it out. PJ seems to be far more involved - even calling the chairman! Quite a change and I think is a big change for the better.

Jetaime Peters, you make a good point. Realistically, who is there we could get at the moment who is better? Scotland can do a pretty good job for us given the service, so we should keep him until we can find a suitable replacement (which, I assume, is exactly what we are doing in fact).

If we can get a good replacement in then he can go! He is fat and lazy he needs to work harder for crying out loud he been on bench for few games, he needs to stop sulking and put more effort into getting back into side and then scoring goals. He has not scored away from home and he becomes a passenger in away games bit like pablo its hard enough with eleven let alone ten! Your being paid a good wage so sort it out Scotland!!!!

If Murray has picked up an injury then we need to keep the "Fat Lazy one" until
first Murray is match fit or we have a replacement for JS.

I think nigel benn has stolen jason scotlands i.d, would explain why he hasn't scored enough.

He looks more like nigel benn than nigel benn.

can we not get a really fast treadmill, stick a donut on the front of it and turn it up full, he'd obviously run so hard to get the donut he'd be fit enough to play and score again?

It needs to be a loan deal with permanent deal arranged for the end of it. He'll have no value at all by the end of the season (at his age), so if Swansea want him they should pay a fee and keep him.

Maybe PJ was just saying that Swansea is no where near Scotland. Has anyone considered he might just be showing everyone how good he is at geography?

Fatboy added 17:15 - Feb 10
If he does go, we'll have our three "senior" strikers out on loan at other Championship clubs (Counago and Lisbie being the other two) and three youngsters left in the squad; Priskin being the oldest at 22ish. A bit odd?

And we've missed out on Shefki (hahahaha : Alan Pardew, what a tw*t).
Lee Chapman has been seen polishing his boots though. The latest thick lip he gave his wife has lasted a long time, too .....

The pie man is ok if he just has the penalty area to run around in!
When PJ's name was first mooted as taking over,he was mid table as far as I was concerned compared to Curbs etc;but now he has moved into the play-offs and is pushing the top two.
Keep up the good work Mr Jewell and you will soon be choosing the curtains in the boardroom, and the wine, sorry Mr John does that!Happy days are here again!

Need a replacement, and also don't let him go for peanuts - Jewell is right - why should we pay his wages??

I was going to make exactly the point Vic made. Jewell seems to be doing a more rounded manager's job than his predecessor, including talking about finances, fees, wages and contracts - exactly what a manager should be doing in my opinion. Jewell has years of football management experience whereas Clegg is relatively new to football, so it makes absolute sense that Jewell is fully involved.

Keane by contrast seemed remote, as though he left the whole financial side to the owner and chief exec (I'm not sure whose decision that was). I didn't think Keane was much of a training ground manager, and if we believe Delaney he hardly spoke to the players. I am not aware of Keane doing much scouting, taking in other matches and attending games (did he ever go to a lower league match?). Reading into Clegg's comments I got the impression Keane wasn't into the football in the community stuff. If leaves me wondering somewhat what Keane did do other than make expensive signings!

no point in letting him go for peanuts, hes an average championship player and would provide good backup for Priskin and Wickham but if there was a good offer came in for him then i would let him go.
