West Brom's Cox One of Town's Premier Targets
West Brom's Cox One of Town's Premier Targets
Tuesday, 1st Mar 2011 22:45

West Brom striker Simon Cox is amongst the Premier League players to have been targeted by boss Paul Jewell. Earlier today, Jewell revealed that Town were rebuffed by two top flight players they wanted to take on loan last week.

Cox, 23, started his career at hometown club Reading and had spells on loan at Brentford, Northampton and Swindon before joining the Robins on a full-time basis for a fee of £200,000 in January 2008.

After scoring 47 goals in 86 starts and two sub appearances for the Wiltshire club, a fee of £1.5 million took him to the Hawthorns in July 2009.

However, the 5ft 10in tall frontman has failed to really establish himself with the Baggies and has made only 30 starts and 21 sub appearances, scoring 13 goals.

he might be good at lower league footy level but looking at the article he is untried at championship level

Worcester Warrior - most of his 13 goals for WBA were in this league!

He would be a good signing.
I think the Baggies will keep him if they get relegated. They may have to reduce wage bill and maybe sell some of their top players. He would be effective in the Championship and could be the player that gets them championship goals.
If they manage to stay up we could have a better chance to get him..

Didn't he say he wanted to stay and fight for his place ? In which case, he either doesn't want to come here, or the deal was purely a loan and not a loan to buy ?

Swindon must have a decent striker coach, i would suggest we get hold of him. They always seem to move on a 25 goal a season striker and bring another in. Parkin, Painter, Cox, Austin to name a few, not saying they are the best strikers but they certainly seem to get goals out of them.

Exactly the sort of player that we need. Personally rated him ahead of Austin at Swindon.

dont understand these players, chance to play first team football and prove to their home team or others they are good enough to play yet they choose to warm the bench, to me thats not a player full of passion for the game but in it for the money! Unless of course these are loan with view to buy deals and he doesnt fancy championship football longer term...... still a shame!

Probably feels that with the arrival of a new manager (Hodgson) he might get a chance of 1st team football.

Its all well and good watching Premier League players but we do not pay the sort of wages that they want, we're a bit like looking at goods in Waitose and then buying from Aldi and Lidl, we only pay bargain basement fees and that is all we are likely to get, with Clegg in the mix I really hope I'm wrong but I fear next season will turn out much like this unless the club show some real AMBITION.
