Freedman: Wright Return Rumours Wrong
Freedman: Wright Return Rumours Wrong
Monday, 28th Mar 2011 16:16

Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman has dismissed reports linking former Blue David Wright with a return to Portman Road. Wright, who is currently playing in central midfield for the Eagles, moved to Selhurst Park in the summer having been released by the Blues.

Freedman said: “David’s defensive qualities give us something to bounce off and a platform to build on.

“He’s a good character and a good leader. He is definitely someone who is in my thoughts. I’ve not heard about any interest from Ipswich.”

Hmm, not sure. Was seen at PR for the Reading game I think....hope he does come back. Really depenable defender.

Apparently, Palace fans don't like him; has been played at left back and centre mid, and they get on his back. Would have him back

Just to have a recognised right back would be something! Are we the only team in the football league to go a whole season without one (other than the very short loan period of Zuiverloon). Thanks RK for the legacy you have left behind.

Is Wright playing ahead of Garvan in the Palace midfield, or are they the central mid pairing?

Yes, I would like to see him back. He should never have been sold. Same applies to Rhodes.

Interesting, he did play for Jewell and Jewell liked him

Is he playing DMC for Palace? I imagine he'd play a kingpin role a la Kennedy versus Arsenal

@Berts_chin

According to the Croydon Advertiser Garvan has been bombed out of the 1st team squad cos Palace are currently opting for a more 'solid team'. Hence Wright playing in their central midfield(!). Also Garvan appears to be less than popular with their 'fans', they think he's too lightweight for the Championship. Imagine a Wright/Garvan midfield partnership!

And I agree with @Muhrensleftfoot. RK has left us with a terrible legacy. Getting rid of the likes of Rhodes, Wright, Garvan, 20+ players out of contract (and you can't blame Clegg for that), terrible over-priced signings (Priskin, Scotland, Lee, Kennedy, Edwards etc etc), shattered squad morale and team spirit, bizarre team selections (like playing 4 central defenders across the back) and I could give other examples. It'll be a miracle if we get anywhere near the top 6 in the next few seasons in my opinion after the mess RK's left behind.

Was given short shift by Keane...when he should have been one of the first on the team sheet...I would like to see him back, he has Ipswich in his heart!

Getting Wright back would be a step backwards and will not be the fast raiding full back we need. To be honest Edwards has done a decent job at right back and whilst perhaps not the answer is in my opinion a better proposition than Wright. As for Garvan well if you could look up all of my posts regarding this player you will know I am not suprised has has been squeezed out at Palace. For a player who can't run can't head a ball and can't shoot he has over achieved reaching Championship level. Yes he could pass but that alone is not good enough. That was one good deal that Keane did pull off by getting rid. Sorry Garvan lovers just my opinion.

Not sure how you can say he can't shoot stow, watch palace highlights earlier in the season he was banging them in. Good quality player.

Oldbarrackdan...fair.

Al this nonsense about Garvan. Face it he can't header tackle has no pace, Yes he has a good left foot. The game goes on all around him. Lets move on as well

We need a dependable right back, but Mr Wright does not have the pace to overlap in the wing back role. Hopefully our manager has identified a marauding style full back to bring to our club this summer. David is a good player but i,m afraid not the way foward for our club.

Returning to a former club does not always work. Whilst Wright served Town well his appearances for Palace have not been good and I would suggest this is not the way forward.

Thank the good lord! Ordinary at best - some confused his honest, professional approach as him being a good RB. He was okay at best - all the very best to him, but is no way what we need / are looking for.

FATCATEVENS. ''Garvan. Face it he can't header tackle has no pace''. You say it like its a bad thing, let me think what other midfielders can't header, tackle and have no/little pace: Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas, Beckham, Scholes. And lets face it, they aren't to bad are they! The game is based alot more on atheleticism now a days, but I feel that with the increase in athleticism the talent is lacking with certain clubs/players. I am not some old bloke on a rant about gone by days either, I am only 18. But I do appreciate a good passing player.

To be fair to Roy, I don't think any of the players he actually got rid of (as opposed to sending out on loan) were all that good.
Would we want Garvan back? Not really. Pabs ... nope.
Wright ... maybe... but getting old.
The problem for Roy was the same could be said of most of the players he brought in and all of the players who played for him once his corrosive introspection got hold.

Shame in a nostalgic way about Wright, but I do understand the need for young blood.
