Dyer Set to Return at Burnley
Dyer Set to Return at Burnley
Wednesday, 30th Mar 2011 13:27

Loan midfielder Kieron Dyer could return to action when the Blues travel to Burnley on Saturday having missed the 2-0 home victory over Scunthorpe with a minor thigh injury. The former England man is on a month’s loan from West Ham.

Boss Paul Jewell said: "Kieron has been training with the fitness coaches this week and has a chance for the weekend.

"We will see how he is over the next couple of days, but I spoke to Kieron and he said he actually feels better now than he did before the Leeds game.

"Hopefully the two-week break has come at a good time for him and has done him the world of good."

As yet there is no news of any injuries to the players away on international duty, although most are expected back on Thursday, while Town are definitely without wideman Lee Martin at Turf Moor with the former Manchester United man beginning a two-match suspension having amassed 10 yellow cards.

much as i like Lee Martin kinda glad about this ban as gives others a chance, hopefully he wont stick drury out wide but will play O connor, JP or Civelli..... it would be a fairytale if Dyer came back fully fit and signed for us next season, but thats about the truth of it a fairy tale and not reality.. much as id love it to work the guy cannot keep fit and would be in and out of the team giving absolutely no stability........

Play Dyer in behind Wickham. In that role, if we were able to sign him on a play-pay deal, he would be a very useful asset. Anything else is questionable at best.

Thank God there's some "proper" football back this weekend...absolutely hate these international breaks.

Wickham up the middle with Dyer & Martin either side.

Lightningboy: I wouldn't play Martin. We might get done for cheating if we did.

I would really like to see O'Connor back in the team. He was outstanding against Leicester at home. Admittedly, there was quite a bit of snow that day, but he seemed to have the necessary 'bite' that we often seem to lack.

I wouldn't bother with Dyer. Offered very little so far - not match fit or sharp. Would give Civelli a run out as he is at least our player (for the time being). Or indeed O'conner/Peters, who have both been unfortunate to be left out under PJ.

jas with the small amount of cameo performances i have seen from Civelli im still not convinced he is ready for a start, he also plays on the wing whereas Dyer will give us attacking options just behing the loan striker. That said i am not a big fan of Dyer coming back on a permanent basis unless match by match payment agreed. Totally with you on O Connor and Peters.

bluelady - quite happy to substitute Dyer for O'Conner/Peters. Good point about Civelli - I suspect he may be released in the Summer. I feared Dyer was only brought in to sell season tickets and as expected part of the 'sell' was 'Dyer shows we have ambition'. Bottom line is we don't need him, because as we both agree, Peters/O'Conner would be better options and they are both under contract at THIS club!

P J has loads of sorting out to do as i see it. Civelli is light weight and not good enough , the same with Dyer ,he wont be fit often enough and there doesnt seem to much flare from him. I wonder how much he is costing us? .We must try to sign Jimmy Bullard and build the midfield around him. Also i think we need a more reliable keeper not one who cant kick, randomly punches and comes out for crosses that are not his or misses them if they are his.We still need at least one good striker. As a foot note why is Jamie Peters not playing, he always puts in a good shift for the team

Connor right up top, with Dyer playing off of him. Then we could have Edwards and Carson on either wing and Jamie Peters could come back into the side.

He's always going to be crocked. Take him out to the corner of a field and shoot him. Better for everyone. We can all get on with our lives and build a stable realistic playoff contending team.

Bit harsh Worcester-worrier! I think we should only sign Dyer if its on pay as you play deal, otherwise there is little point paying a lot of money for someone who is not going to play!

Can't see too much point in bringing Dyer back full time [ cos that's exactly what it wouldn't be ]. How long was he back before injury ? We've got enough good cover already on the books [ Peters and O'connor to name just two ]. Personally, I would have sooner saved any wages we'll be paying him and put it toward signing a player who IMHO is a must for next season - JIMMY BULLARD !

Dyer's past it! I think a lot of people are viewing him with 90's Dyer goggles on!

Sensible comments above :)....Have always taken the opinion that we have a number of youngsters chomping at the bit to get a game , so play them where possible.
We are a football club, not a rehabilitation centre.
