Win New Roy Keane Book
Win New Roy Keane Book
Wednesday, 30th Mar 2011 16:40

One lucky TWTD reader will win a copy of Ian Oxborrow’s new book Eggshells: Roy Keane at Ipswich Town 2009-2011 which has just been published by Desert Island Football Histories. The book covers the Irishman’s 20 turbulent months in charge of the Blues.

To win, answer the following question correctly, send it to us here before Sunday 10th April and be fortunate enough to have your email picked at random. Who scored the goals in Roy Keane’s first match in charge of Town at Cardiff City?

If you can’t wait for your copy or never win competitions, you can buy the book via TWTD here.

Ian Oxborrow is a sports journalist with the Daily Telegraph and previously with the Colchester Gazette who has been watching Town for more than 20 years.

Was Roy involved personally with this book ? I'm tempted to buy it but would be disappointed if the book was not a balanced read, ie. The good with the bad of his tenure.

Some people might think there were no good points but that is unfair.
Would love to hear from anyone that has read it though.

You're just trying to play with my mind aren't you? Rhodes hits 20 goals for the season. Is that not enough? Good points? Ha! What do you have in mind? It was a nightmare. And I am glad it is OVER!

It's an account of his time, Roy himself wasn't involved.

Disgraceful manager of Ipswich, good riddance!

Triggs21. I doubt very very much if RK had anything to do with this book! Think about it. Would he have involvement in a book about himself called 'Eggshells'? And he certainly doesn't seem to be the most approachable chap in the world.

And I'm honestly struggling to think of even ONE good point from his time as manager. But I'm sure someone will think otherwise.

Why read about what most of us wish to forget?

I put that whole episode to the back of my mind and now some *insert expletive of choice* writes a book on it!

But still there's always someone who looks to make money out of other peoples misery! ;)

It clearly needs a subtext
"How a divisive bully was put in charge of building a team"
Otherwise...how could it be saleable?

I think there'll need to be a lot more water under the bridge before I read this book. The nightmare is too recent. Give it five years, maybe, when the thought of RK doesn't bring on the chills.

I like the cover - it's suitably surreal - like the horrible meaningless nightmare it was. I might buy a copy to read in a few years time once I've fully recovered.

That'll be a long book.....

I think I'll stick to Nelson Mandela's autobiography for the time being. Footy books rarely do it for me.

Triggs re: your concerns, I can confirm, having read the book that there are two pages about cracking press conferences, so yes, the 'good bits' are covered.

Typical comments on here. Roy, like Jim and Joe before him, had some good and some very bad points. Book may be a decent read. It makes me laugh that people say 'no good points' - League Cup semi finalists?

Mr Keane just was not cut out to manage a club like ours. A fantastic player & skipper, a p1ss poor man manager & tactician. Have to say we all got caught up in the Roy Keane phenomenen when he arrived, but reality soon kicked in. Will probably want to read this though just to see if has any balance to it, so i,ll only pass any kind of judgement after that.

Having just finished this book, I can honestly say it's an excellent read despite the subject!
It gives a good description of everything that happened during Keane's time and includes stories/the views of a couple of the journalists who witnessed all sides of the man whilst he was manager.
The author clearly must have done a lot of research in writing it as he points out lots of things that happened that (despite being a season ticket holder) even I'd forgotten about!
Despite his failings, nobody can deny that RK's time as our manager fascinated even people who don't support us and this book covers every aspect of the turbulent 20 months.
In short.....I'd highly recommend this book to any town fan, you won't be disappointed.
