Leadbitter Out of Hospital
Leadbitter Out of Hospital
Saturday, 16th Apr 2011 23:14

Midfielder Grant Leadbitter is out of hospital and on his way back to Suffolk having suffered a concussion during the second half of the Blues’ 1-0 win at Bristol City. Leadbitter clashed heads with Robins defender Damion Stewart and after receiving treatment on the pitch was taken off on a spinal board.

Physio Matt Byard told the club site: "Grant sustained a head injury and received oxygen on the pitch. He was taken off the pitch on a spinal board as a precaution and taken to hospital for CT scans.

"The results of those scans are satisfactory and he has been discharged and allowed to travel back home. We will review his condition again on Sunday and take it from there."

The former Sunderland man is travelling home with Byard and club doctor Steve Roberts.

Grant received treatment from club doctor Steve Roberts as well as Matt on the pitch and both are accompanying the midfielder on the trip home.

Taken off on a spinal board? Do the medics hate him or something? Completely unnecessary given the mechanism of injury.

Regardless, glad he's okay.

Yes, was very concerned as it sounded very scary.

Given this and the ten men thing three points were beautiful.

Blue Army 15 don't know if you will get your wish and see Grant play on Thursday as he picked up a 10th yellow card and I think he may well be suspended for 2 matches now!

He's not suspended, however, a weeks rest is the norm in football following concussion. Unlikely to feature on Thursday... so does Hyam get a run?

Deadline passed last weekend so he won't get a ban, but i still feel its unlikely he'll play if it was a concussion

On Thursday we need to step up like we did against Arsenal. We didn't need Leadbitter that day, get Healy in there and make him do that job again. Peters aha Carson either side of Wickham up top. COYB

I would like to see Grant getting rested for the Norwich game, because this is a serious injury, albeit one that he should recover quickly from. I echo the sentiments of previous posters who suggest an appearance for Luke Hyam should be in order here. If Paul Jewell wants a holding midfielder, I think he certainly should consider what Hyam offers. He is one of a series of very promising teenagers in our squad. Having him, Carson and Wickham all firing on all cylinders would be superb.

Canadian lie, how is a spinal board unnecessary? Any trauma above the clavicle carries a significantly increased risk of cervical spine injury. By the sounds of things his consciousness was also impaired so he wouldn't have been able to report any cervical spine tenderness. The medics did absolutely the right thing; to have not treated him with spinal immobilisation would have been bordering on indefensible.

Glad he's on the mend.
