Cox Turned Down Loans to Impress New Boss
Cox Turned Down Loans to Impress New Boss
Monday, 18th Apr 2011 10:09

Town target Simon Cox has explained why he turned down the chance to join the Blues and other Championship clubs on loan earlier in the year and says he’s happy to remain with West Brom if they want him. Paul Jewell looked at signing Cox on loan on a number of occasions during February and March.

Striker Cox was anxious not to be forgotten by new boss Roy Hodgson, something he thought might happen if he spent time away from the Hawthorns: "The new manager had just come in and I knew if I went out on loan I would not be in his face every day so he would not know what I'm like as a person or as a player.

"I was quite happy to stick around and prove to him that I can play in his team. It was a good decision to stay.”

Town are likely to be one of a number of suitors in the summer and the 23-year-old, who has recently been in and around Hodgson's first team, says he’ll hold talks with Albion in the close season: "I'll sit down with the gaffer and [sporting and technical director] Dan [Ashworth] at the end of the year. I've still got a year left on my contract and if they want me to stay then I'm happy to stay.

"If they feel it's not for me or they feel I would be best suited going out on loan, then we would have to look at that.

"But for now I'm just focusing on this year and keeping West Brom safe - getting to the magic points mark."

Elsewhere, former Blues Kelvin Davis and Dan Harding, both now at Southampton, were named in the League One Team of the Year at last night's PFA Awards.

If he's content to stay at WBA and sit on the bench/not play...is he really for us????

i think you have got that all wrong devon. the fact was a new manager had arrived and he felt that he had another chance. just look at lee martin, he never stood a chance under keane but then jewell came in and he's a regular

What is the point of this article? Cox wants to stay at WBA, nowhere does it say he wants to go anywhere, so why stir up false hopes?

Would prefer Mackail Smith.

As for Harding, should never have let him go.

I agree lightningboy.... Mackail Smith would be a much better signing. What do you reckon the chances of us getting him are?

Not sure about this lad, doesnt seem to have that many games or goals while at WB rather go for a player who is scoring right now like a Billy Sharpe or maybe a punt (like others say) at Mackail-Smith. I have faith in PJ, im sure he will get the right men in (Y)
