Moss to Referee East Anglian Derby
Moss to Referee East Anglian Derby
Tuesday, 19th Apr 2011 10:12

West Yorkshire official Jonathan Moss is the man who has been chosen to take control of Thursday's East Anglian derby between the Blues and Norwich City at Portman Road. The 40-year-old has shown 80 yellow cards and eight red in 38 games so far this season.

Moss’s most recent Town match was the 2-1 win at Crystal Palace in August in which he red-carded Eagles defender Claude Davis for a professional foul and former Blues loanee Andros Townsend for a dangerous tackle.

Moss also took control of Town's 3-1 win at Derby in April last year when he sent off Rams’ midfielder Stephen Pearson for foul and abusive language towards the end.

Prior to that, the primary school head teacher refereed Town’s 2-0 defeat at Preston last season in which Tamás Priskin had a goal harshly disallowed.

Moss was the official who dismissed Plymouth’s Mathias Doumbe for a professional foul in the 78th second of the Pilgrims’ 2007 visit to Portman Road, the Blues running out 3-0 winners.

Norwich’s most recent experiences of Moss’s refereeing were a 1-0 home victory over QPR in January, in which he sent off Rangers defender Matthew Connolly, and a 3-1 Carling Cup loss at Blackburn in August which remained 11-a-side for the full 90 minutes.

hmmm, a card-happy ref for a local derby?? that makes no sense at all....these kind of games need a ref who can control a game a bit. His red-card count would suggest otherwise.

Nice sarky end to the report, actually pointing out that a game finished 11 apiece :o) hehe

lets hope that he knows that a buggie has to be sent off in the first 10 minutes to even up the ridiculous one given to DD at carrot road!

I was at the Plymouth game, funny as anything, especially as the Red card was harsh! Do believe that was when Wlaters got his first goal for us.

He's a good ref actually. He'll be Premier League next season - hes training with the elite group anyway at the moment. He's calm and usually very reasonable - one of the better ref's at this level - and a decent choice for a blood and thunder derby.

First saw this referee when we played at Chester in the F.A. Cup a few years back. Not the best referee in the world but then look at what we have seen this season at Portman Road. Its what happens on the day that counts. Surprisingly I think the best referee we have had this season is Kevin Friend for the Millwall home match.

With every ref seeming to fall for Holt's "falling over" I fear an early red card for 1 of our centre halves if this ref is card happy :-(
I was hoping they would bring Barry Knight or Alf Buksh out of retirement for this match

Diving should be punished with a red now, people ask how to stamp it out of the game? Main culprits this season, Nani, who I almost hate as much as Ronaldo now, Fabregas, as it was against us(!), and of course Mr Holt, who has been at it from the first whistle of the season. Red red red, simple.

Apparently one of the Rolling Stones is supposed to be giving him a lift to the game... what could go wrong there?

Never watched or done the whole live streaming thing before, but through the magic of Google I just found this link... no idea if this is a good streaming site, but it was top of the list: http://www.livesoccertv.com/match/150147/ipswich-town-vs-norwich-city/

Stirling comment, Slowerball - your prize is a certain type of field effect transisitor.

Superb - wonder if he's ref'd at Ashton GATE... or could he be a DRAIN on resources... Sure he would have given Moritz VOLZ a card. I better stop now.

As long as his red cards are yellow, I'm not fussed. By the way, regards to Kate !
