Delaney Signs New Deal
Delaney Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 20th Apr 2011 09:10

Central defender Damien Delaney has signed his new contract with the Blues. The Irishman has put pen to paper on a two-year deal which could extend to three depending on appearances in the second season.

Delaney told the club site: "I'm obviously delighted that everything is done and dusted now with the contract and I'm looking forward to spending at least two more years here and helping the club reach the Premier League.

"I came here to win promotion and that's the aim. I believe we can do it and I wouldn't have signed a new deal unless I felt that.

"There is a lot of optimism about the place and the results have shown that recently.

"There are too many positives, too much optimism to walk away from Ipswich Town.

"I tend to follow my gut instinct and everything was telling me to stay here and be part of a club that is moving forward."

Very subtle Phil - "more from the Press Conference later" - and there was most of TWTD thinking you were having a lie in and missed the "breaking news!"

great news, by no means the best defender in the world, but gives everything and is a good example of playing for the shirt. Had to put up with alot under the previous regime and has forged a solid partnership at the heart of the defence. Just hope GMac signs now as in my opinion he makes DD a better defender (if that makes sense)

Rangers have been linked with Mac for aaaages now! Keep this unbeaten run going to the end of the season and he'll sign i'm sure.

Nooooo.
He's a liabilty and we should have offloaded him. He's the reason we lost two easily winnable home games recently, sorry.
In my opinion!

Good news, solid player.

Now Macauley and Norris and a win over Norwich to cap of an absolutely fantastic first few months of Jewell's reign.

StiffShorts- its always easy to remember the mistakes he's made, but also easy to forget the number of times he's thrown his body in the way of shots on goal. Based on your logic Gmac should go too, because during his "dark time" he was awful, gave away possession and goals almost 5 games in a row!

Good news. Hoping that Norris will sign up but who knows, and Rangers manager is scouting Mcauley!

Great News. Mind I am disappointed in this era of 24hr news we have to wait for Phil to have his second cup of Darjeeling before we get the rest of the report. Slack or wot?

Nice one DD, lets hope Mcauley follows soon, but im not so worried about Norris leaving tbh. I dont think we will miss him as much as everybody thinks.

No news on club site.

I'd rather McAuley sign than Norris - hardly furthering his career going to the SPL but he will probably get European football and a bigger wage, so if thats the case then there's a chance we could lose him.

Looking like we've sold around 29,800 so far, with only a small handful of 'unrestricted viewing' seats now available.

Great news and about time! Now Macca's signed as well we're in great shape again for next season. COYB
