McAuley Agrees Deal as Rangers Linked
McAuley Agrees Deal as Rangers Linked
Wednesday, 20th Apr 2011 10:35

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Town have agreed terms with central defender Gareth McAuley and that he hopes the Northern Irishman will join Damien Delaney in signing his new deal in the next few days. One of this morning’s tabloids claims next season's Rangers manager Ally McCoist will be at Thursday’s East Anglian derby with Norwich to run the rule over the 31-year-old, but the Town boss says that their interest is news to him.

Jewell said: “We’ve agreed to Gareth McAuley’s agent’s terms and we’re waiting for him to say yes to them. As far as I’m aware everything’s done and hopefully he’ll get it signed.

“I know there’s a story in the papers this morning about him going to Rangers. I don’t know anything about that. As far as I’m concerned we’ve agreed with Gareth and hopefully he’ll get it signed.”

SPL giants Rangers previously targeted the former Lincoln and Leicester man last summer.

It's not done & dusted until he signs on the dotted line............

If this is true then it's GOOD news, he is one of our most consistent performers. Not bothered about Norris, but Bullard would be good if he can keep injury free.

Good news! Really don't want Norris to stay though. He isn't the sort of player that will help us push on to the next level, and money saved on him could be better spent elsewhere.

Jewell said we'd agreed his terms, not that he's agreed the contract. Very cleverly used the word "hope" and using press to put pressure on.

Cue last minute change of terms from the agent after Rangers make an offer!

This sounds very promising but won't feel comfortable until we see McAuley lining up with us for the first match of the season. Things change so quickly in football but if he signs then that shows he is committed to ITFC.

Sorry to say it but you guys are crackers on here. Now I am not saying that Norris is the most talented player in the Championship, far from it..but 10 goals from midfield speaks for itself! You can't just replace that easily..if the deal is right for the club and PJ thinks it right then you should back the manager, afterall he is the expert!

Really need McCauley to sign though, he has been outstanding all season.

If McAuley does sign then that will be good news,

Norris he's replaceable and he wont want to drop his wage level so that isn't money invested wisely as I see it, be it a 2 year contract, 3 would be stupid.
There'll be others equally as capable as him who'll be free agents come seasons end and as I see it he's not Captain material either, it's just that we don't have anybody who actually is that is here at present.

The club needs an injection of new blood, not have the prospect of another year stagnating in this division.

Ive got to say I agree with warkys tash on Norris - 10 goals from midfield, great engine, and a resolute captain - we should definatly be looking to keep hold of Norris. I think the problem can be that people expect him , due to his 110% workrate, to be a much better ball winner. Also, because he plays by breaking forward (hence the 10 goals so far..) people expect him to be more technical and a more creative player..unfortunatly he is not, but the goals and workrate are why we need to keep him !!

As per this article, great news if Mac signs up - him and DD will be a force to be reckoned with next season !!

COYB :)

I hope he signs before tomoorw, the atmsophere is going to be great as it is, but this will lift the "feel-good Factor" even more!
And for what its worth, Norris has to stay, 10 goals from midfield, work-rate, does the simple thing, doesn't pretend to be anything more than a workhorse, with an eye for a goal. If it weren't for players like him, we couldnt have Bullard, because there is no way Bullard is going to get through that much work.

Good news if "the Mac" signs, player of the year IMO

All sounding quite promising..hopefully we can get Norris sorted & then Bullard - he is the key.

The more that sign mean that Jewell doesn't have to waste time looking for replacements in the summer & can concentrate on bringing in a couple of much needed strikers.

We need to keep this team together, add a striker but if we keep it together then we can really have a crack at promotion next season.

If we sell and bring in new faces, then it is going to be another season of "transition" and bedding players in. No thanks, promotion please.

And for those that don't mind Norris leaving, 1 question: Are you nuts?

not that bothered if he stays or goes. he is quite easy to replace just like anybody in any job

daniel9624 added 13:21 - Apr 20
Broomfield 123, that is a mad comment. Darren bent left several years ago and we have not been able to replace him or his golas. I place the same significance on GMac, there are very few central defenders of the same ability availble at the moment.

Why would anybody leave a stable championship club to go to an SPL team doesn't make any sense to me
0

broomfield123 added 15:26 - Apr 20
I'm afraid that mac is and never will be anywhere the same class as benty. Our situation is a lot different then to what it is now. I'm afraid its a money game nowadays

OK Doctor_Albran - why the Scottish based avatar then?

Surely there must be a host of angry English stereotypes you could use or is this your inherent jealousy of the master race coming through.

daniel, broomfield has never yet made a constructive or remotely sensible comment so why should he start now? if he c
an't see the value of McAuley, we are wasting our time trying to convince him
