Norris Talks Continue

Boss Paul Jewell says he spoke to skipper David Norris regarding his new contract again yesterday, having talked to his agent last week. The Blues manager says the club is continuing to work on securing the 30-year-old's signature.

Jewell said: “I spoke to Chuck’s agent on Thursday and I spoke to Chuck yesterday and we’re trying to get something done.

“If we can, great, if we can’t, then at the end of the day this football club will still be here long after I’ve gone and anyone else has gone. But saying that we want to keep them here, are desperate to keep them here.

“However, if we don’t, we’ll have to learn from our mistakes - we’ve left ourselves vulnerable to this situation.”

Like Gareth McAuley, who has now agreed terms but not yet signed, Norris turned down a contract before Christmas as he wanted a three-year deal not the two seasons on offer.

Portsmouth and Crystal Palace targeted the midfielder in January and Pompey and a number of other Championship clubs are believed to be interested in signing the former Plymouth man in the summer when he becomes a free agent.

Before Delaney sign every one was like hes after money blah blah blah. He then signs and everything is rosy.

McAuley before he sign must be waiting for another club to come in blah blah blah now it looks almost certain he will sign and everything is rosy.

Now it Norris who is getting it from you so called supporters.... this is an important contract for all three players. Leave them take there time. None of you know why they have taken their time and until they come out and say they will not be signing a new contract stop talking sh*te and support the team.

Happy for Norris to stay but will not be to disappointed if he goes. There are plenty of players better on a free, such as Guy Moussi from Forest..........Get him cleggy!

As mentioned last week, he won't be going to Portsmouth as they have been told to cut the wage bill.

They are currently looking for new investors, but if that isn't successful they are going to be under pressure to remove Kitson and Lawrence from their wage bill.

Norris would be a fool to join as they are only going one direction and that isn't towards the PL. I'd say at his stage of career it's too much of a risk to go to a club where it's future could again be in doubt.

To be fair to all the players I think they have been model professionals during this time. Would have been very easy for there performances to have dipped or picked up 'injuries' that prevented them from playing. The club have taken an age to sort out contracts and we just expect them to sign straight away. If it was me I would take my time and ensure everything was right after months of uncertainty. If any of them do leave for free club can blame nobody but themselves

Personally, I think Norris has every right to take his time over an important contract for him. The club have put him in this situation and he is only doing what is best for himself and his family.

For what its worth I hope he stays.

Would prefer it if the money on the table for Norris was directed towards the package being put together for Bullard.

I'm not the biggest fan of Norris as a footballer (effort over skill) and I'm not sure there's space for him in a 4-4-2 midfield (assuming we get a tackling type player and a playmaker like Bullard for the middle two roles), but there's no doubting his effort for the cause this season barring a few off days, which everyone has.

So, while I won't be that upset to see him go based on my comments above, I'm a bit disappointed that some fans seem to want him to leave. He's been a good player for us, even if he was never worth what we paid for him. But that's hardly his fault.

Do you think PJ's being paid Clogg's wages as well? He seems to be doing his job for him.

'However, if we don't, we'll have to learn from our mistakes - we've left ourselves vulnerable to this situation' - completely agree with PJ and indeed Roy who was equally disappointed with the way the club have handled this. I don't care what anyone says the buck stops firmly with Clegg.

Some of these comments are so childish. Chuck will do the best for himself and his family, as we all would. Get over it.

Let him go, his not worth a 3 year deal and will want big wages, what you would save on him could go towards trying to get Bullard. Norris can't pass.

Mr Norris is only doing what most of us would do in his situation, basically, the wright thing for him & his family at the end of the day. If he stays, great, if he decides to leave, then thanks for giving 100% for our club in his time here.

Norris is our Captain, Top goalscorer and a player who chases everything on the pitch, so as far as im concerned i would love hime to stay as i can see Norris and Bullard workin well in the centre with Bullard creating chances and Norris stoping opposition chances as well as chipping in with a few goals.

We really should not be indifferent to losing a player that

a) cost us £2 million plus:
b) has scored 10 goals from midfield this season; and
c) is our current captain.

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but in my view he really makes a difference when he plays and it would be a massive mistake to simply let him walk away.

As a current player he adds value to our team; to let another club benefit from that without recompense would be crass negligence.

We've clearly caved into the demands from GMac & DD; we cannot not do the same for Chuck.

@Blue041273 & Martus - Finally, people who are talking sense... He's practically been saving our arse by scoring goals when our strikers haven't, imagine what he's going to do with an improved squad next season? ;D

ie, let the manager deal with players and the ceo worry about the rest of the staff
