Healy and Murphy Given Contract Deadline
Healy and Murphy Given Contract Deadline
Thursday, 21st Apr 2011 07:53

Town boss Paul Jewell says he has given the agents representing Colin Healy and Brian Murphy a deadline by which time the duo should have signed their deals. The Blues manager has confirmed that keeper Arran Lee-Barrett’s agent has been given the keeper’s new contract offer.

Jewell says he expects fellow custodian Murphy and midfielder Healy to sign soon: “We have made them offers and we have told their agents that they need to get back to us by certain dates but I’m pretty confident with them.”

The Blues boss reiterated that he has been pleased with the out of contract players’ attitudes since he has been at the club: “Without going over old ground, the players have been terrific, their attitudes have been spot on since I’ve been here.

“If they sign I’ll be delighted, if they don’t sign that’s their prerogative and we will move on. However, I’d like to move on with those players.”

Jewell says the reaction to Simon Clegg’s comments regarding the club not being held to ransom has been overstated: “The players are asking for what they think is right for their families. We don’t have to give it to them if we don’t want to.

“I think when you get held to ransom you’ve got a gun to your head. I don’t think there are any guns to our head.

“I think sometimes things get blown up out of all proportion," he added. "There’s no big drama. If you went to the game on Saturday you wouldn’t think that the players aren’t happy.”

Earlier in the week, Arran Lee-Barrett said that he was yet to see his new terms but the Blues boss says the club have spoken to his representative: “We’ve made an offer to his agent, so maybe he’s keeping it from him!”

Last week, Jewell revealed that he has offered contracts to six first and second-year pros and says he has also made a decision on Bermudian international winger Reggie Lambe: “I spoke to Reggie Lambe’s agent on Monday evening. He’s at Bristol Rovers and enjoying himself there. I need to speak to Reggie before we make an announcement.

“Jamie Griffiths and David Cawley are both injured. That’s a difficult situation that we have to deal with which is a bit more complicated than the others.”

ALB is a good keeper, the only issue that worries me is his kicking. Kicks are quite often short on distance.

I would like to see these time frames enforced if bite comes to crush, the power should be with the club and not the players... Im all for running ipswich town FC within budget, as we dont know if ME will ever walk away.

If it means we loose out on a couple of these players who we would "like" then so be it... we move on and rebuild.

These 2 players 'Healy and Murphy' are nothing more than just standard types in their respective abilities for this level and just below,
Arran Lee-Barrett, he's suspect at times, first choice goalie?
Not in my book...

Do we really need 3 (THREE) goalkeepers, that is going over the top I think, especially since we don't even have 1 (one) proper right back who can play at first team level.

How often does a goalie get injured? answer: Very rarely
Outfield player? that could happen every game through bad tackles and collisions.

So hopefully we'll lose one goalie and of the two, and Murphy will move on.

To be honest i wouldnt mind too much if murphy left as we have fulop as numer 1 and lee-barrett in case he gets injured and what not. Also Healys been good for us since PJ has arrived so i think we should sign him up however it isnt a big issue if he doesnt as imo hes a fairly average player for this league....

Sign up Murphy and ALB as goalkeepers and let the Flapping, flailing Fulop go to try and sign a reconginsed RB.Healy is a different player under PJ so sign him as well.

It is good to have tese deadlines - at the end of the day PJ should know as early as possible who is in and who is not. In this case I am not so worried - ALB will sign anyways and Hely - I don't value him a lot. I don't even know why PJ has offered him a contract?! If we are to push for promotion we need players much better than Healy...
