Carlos Facing Car Loss
Carlos Facing Car Loss
Saturday, 23rd Apr 2011 20:29

Midfielder-turned-full-back Carlos Edwards is facing a possible driving ban having admitted one of a number of driving offences. The 32-year-old has pleaded guilty to driving without third party insurance and is facing five further charges.

The Trinidad and Tobago international was arrested while allegedly driving a Mercedes on the A14 at Bury St Edmunds on the morning of January 22nd, the day he scored the third of Town’s goals in a 3-2 victory over Doncaster Rovers at Portman Road.

He was charged with driving without a licence, driving without insurance and driving without an MOT. Edwards is yet to enter a plea to these charges, however, he has pleaded guilty by post to a charge of driving without third party insurance in relation to an earlier incident on January 28th when he was stopped in Duke Street in Ipswich in a Land Rover.

The former Wrexham, Sunderland and Luton man also faces charges of driving without a licence and driving without an MOT with regards to the January incident.

Edwards was due to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court last week but didn’t attend the hearing and his case has been adjourned until May 12th.

Meanwhile, Norwich City chief executive David McNally has said he intends to complain to Suffolk police regarding their handling of Thursday’s derby: “Really disappointed with the police treatment of our fans on Thursday night. We will be lodging an official complaint,” he tweeted.

Around 100 Norwich fans are reported to have still been outside the ground when the match kicked off after an apparent stand-off between the two sets of fans in Portman Road.

Seven of the 19 people arrested at the derby have been charged with threatening behaviour and will appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on May 4th and 9th.

On Friday, Inspector Matthew Rose said Suffolk Constabulary were pleased with the way their operation had gone: “From my point of view the operation has been an absolute success.”

Probably wise if comments could avoid speculating on the charges for which pleas are yet to be entered.

Brilliant headline. I hope that one of our most senior players doesn't turn out to be a bit of a plank on thousands of pounds a week and then not paying for car insurance etc...

So Norwich are complaining because a few were late getting in the ground. What a shame!

Take the result and move on

Hmm, finding it hard to feel sorry for a few Scum fans stuck outside the ground at kick-off. I think my train was stuck somewhere near Romford at that point!

From this story we can conclude something that we already know. Police are a waste of tax payers money, they should be out catching proper crooks.

If these allegation are true, then maybe it is because he couldn't afford the insurance?

It must be hard to scrape by on a professional footballers meagre wages...

It was absolutely ludicrous to play this game on a Thursday evening. We are told to get there early but not everyone can. Budgie fans were stll coming down Portman Road at 7.30 p.m. so what do they expect - to walk straight into the stadium - I think not. I know the train service was abysmal on Thursday which did not help but this game should have been played on a Saturday giving everyone a chance to get there on time. Ah well it won't happen again for a couple of years now.

Probably the reason Edwards has no licence, MOT (allegedly) and Insurance (admitted) is that he's been far too busy commenting every week on how poor his team mates are and how various players have 'let us down'. The man is a liability and as a player certainly not the answer to the right back problem.

Easy mistake to make forgetting to MOT a vehicle as there is no reminder system. Done it myself.

People driving without motor insurance should be fined ten percent of their gross annual salary and banned for three years. That might get the message to the dick heads.
