Rodgers Yet to Decide on Priskin Move
Rodgers Yet to Decide on Priskin Move
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2011 09:10

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers says he’s not yet decided whether he’ll look to sign on-loan Town striker Tamás Priskin on a permanent basis in the summer. After yesterday’s 4-1 defeat of the Blues, the Northern Irishman revealed that the 24-year-old is out for the season with a knee injury.

Rodgers says that Priskin underwent a scan which showed that the Hungarian is unlikely to play again this season, even if the Swans book a date at Wembley: “Priskin is struggling. That will be him really, I would think. He’s just unfortunate, he’s taken a knock. We had the scan yesterday and it shows that he’ll be out for four to six weeks.

“If he were to be available that wouldn’t be until late, late May, but that’s a ‘what if’ scenario, so unfortunately he’ll probably go back. The play-off final is late May but he could even be struggling for that.

“I’ve spoken to the boy, who is disappointed because he’s loved it down here. I’ll speak with Paul Jewell and we’ll see where we go, but that’s what the scan has revealed.”

The Swansea boss says he’s yet to seriously consider whether to sign Priskin, who played under him at Watford, on a full-time basis in the summer: “I haven’t thought about it really. I’ve worked with Tamás before, I know him well, he’s a good kid, he suits our style and he’s done well since he’s come here.

“We’ll see. He’s obviously done well for Ipswich in parts and I’m sure Paul will want to have a look at him and see what happens from there.”

Town boss Jewell confirmed that Priskin would be returning to Town: “He came to the hotel last night with his scan and the physio looked at it. I think he’ll probably come back to us and we’ll make sure he’s fit for next season.”

Priskin, who cost the Blues £1.7 million when he signed from Watford in the summer of 2009, has another year left on his Town contract.

I dont think Priskin is the answer as he still to reach 10 goals for us in 60 games (inc subs) Scotland is not the answer.

Feel we need to sell Scotland and Priskin and buy 2 strikers, that will put pressure on Wickham to push himself further, that will give us 4 with Murray

Don't think Priskin will ever be prolific. OK he's got some nice skills and touches, but we need someone to score goals. I for one hope that Brendan Rodgers decides to buy him. Of course we won't get anything like the fee we paid for him, but at least it will be a largish wage off the books.

This season just gets better by the week, 2 hammerings over Easter, Norwich almost promoted and now Dipskin is coming back here, another good reason to ditch the ST.

Priskin isn't the answer for us - we must hope that Swansea are interested in taking him off our hands.

To that end, it'll be good news is if Swansea don't get promotion, as they may still be interested. If they go up, I can't see them wanting Priskin in the Premiership. Have to keep our fingers crossed.

sell scotland's body for scientific research...to find the answers to the questions...how can a man run so slowly? why cant he control a football? How can he continue in the team? etc etc.

No mention of Scotland's assist yesterday I'd like to add from anyone. But I do agree I would like to see him go.

The problem is finding a club stupid enough to buy either of them, I fear they are here to the end of their contracts.

surely it will be in our best interests to let Scotland go on a free, he must cost a fortune in pies?

To be honest ive such little intreast now.So much for selling season tickets. A good idea would be to increase the admission prices when peaple are fed up and peed of!!! Maybe im missing something in buisness. Let a load of the senior players go like maculey , norris , scotland, priskin and honstly play more younger players and let them shoe them their worth a decent contract

Id suggest Swansea have seen enough of Priskin to realise that he is not good enough for their needs. Guess we are lumbered with him and our other misfit striker, Scotland. This may well hamper Jewells efforts to biorng in two new strikers !

We really need a good clear out, too many of our players have been sitting on nice contracts for too long. There is no hunger is so many of our first team squad... it scares me.

I hope to see a good few people leave over the summer, if we can get any money for them great, if not cut the them loose... take the loss and move on. Im fed up with journeymen looking for there last contract... i want hugnry players like in the mould of charlie austin, which we came close to signing.
Im pretty sure jewell will be given a purse to spend, then i can see it taking abohter 3 seasons, i just hope people will have the patince... as i know PJ is the man for ipswich!! COYB

Shane Supple spotted this very problem a few years ago within the club and the championship. Too many decent players, not good enough for Premier League, happy to sit on good wages at a nice club and a nice contract. Why risk their jobs with promotion when the can have a handy time in mid table championship. Look at Scotland for example, not cut out for Priemier League and happy to plod along in champ.

Personally I like Priskin and he carried the team for a part of the season when we were against the cosh. He is not an out & out goal scorer and in the right team he could do well. Unfortunately for us and Tamas, PJs style wont suit him here next season.

I agree suffolkpoker that PJ is the man to take us to next level and he knows exactly what must be done. We had a few injuries at Swansea and just about managed to patch a team together. I also agree that the youngsters will provide more drive and energy in the squad. I look forward to seeing them play from the beginning of the season next term along with a better quality squad.

I agree with most of the comments on here and as most like Priskin, However we need a 20 a season man, and letting Priskin go will free up the wages to do so, same as Scotland, even if we let them go for free.

Bluelady, I think we could get enough people on here to chip in for Scotland's removal ;0)

Please Brendan take the lump of lard that is Scotland and send back Priskin to us. I would rather see Priskin in our team than Scotland who has been another of the previous managers expensive flops Flapper Fulop included.

Although I agree Scotland must go, I also agree with bluelady - who will want him? Having said that IMO Scotland has been unlucky. Like the majority of fans he doesn't like the one up front and is not under any circumstances a loan striker. This does of course beg the question why PJ plays him there.

Priskin is not the answer, but yet he can play the loan striker role better than Scotland which is quite clearly PJ's style. Unfortunately, he won't score goals.

Jas Scotland played one up front for Swansea, that is his best position BUT he needs two decent wingers so its more of a 433 than a 451..... he has proved he doesnt work well in a 442 format either..... for a couple of games we showed some fantastic width, Carson and Martin on the wing was a revelation, however with martin being banned and PJ seeming to refuse to use another natural winger i.e O Connor then things have looked very very negative last couple of games....

Think Priskin should be given the chance to start up front with Wickham next season, if he has not been sold on. Get rid of Scotland and buy a keen and pacy front man who given the chance will get us the goals to make us a play off team.
Where Jewell goes to strenghthen up our midfield and full back areas is a job I would not like. We as fans must back him over the Summer not chastise him, he is only playing the dross left by Keane. I hate to say this but we must take a good look at how Norwich signed the majority of players from lower down the league.

Surco72 added 14:07 - Apr 26
Hopefully Keane will get another job in the summer as he is the only one stupid enough to spend £2.5 million on Priskin and Sotland .
Why dont we sign Rhodes back if Huddersfield dont go up , he is still scoring regularly and the likes of Holt,Jackson,Paynter,Morison,Beckford have all proved good enough by stepping up ,Huddersfield can have Misskin and Scotland .

People talk about needing to add 3 or 4 players in the summer, but if Macca, Delaney and Norris do not sign this becomes 6 or 7.

Where is PJ going to get the monel to do that from? If we are still lumbered with Priskin and Scotland it will be the likes of Healey, Civelli and Peters that are shown the door, together with younger players like O'Connor, Hyam, Smnith, who are unable to force their way back into the side.

We are no longer talking about tinkering but major rebuilding that will take 3 or 4 more years.
