Jewell Unsure Whether Duo Will Return for Preston
Jewell Unsure Whether Duo Will Return for Preston
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2011 09:55

Boss Paul Jewell says he's not sure whether Jimmy Bullard or Connor Wickham will be fit enough to face newly-relegated Preston at Portman Road on Saturday. The duo missed Monday's 4-1 defeat at Swansea with the Town manager admitting to being concerned about fluid on the on-loan Hull midfielder's knee.

Striker Wickham has a rib injury, while Bullard has shoulder and knee problems with Jewell more concerned about the latter: “Connor got a knock on the rib against Norwich and Jimmy has a knee injury.

“Jimmy’s got a bit of fluid on his knee which with his past history is a bit of a concern and we’ll have a look at Connor in the morning.”

Meanwhile, the Blues boss is weighing up whether to give keeper Brian Murphy a run-out during the season’s final two matches: “We’ve got two games and Brian might play in one of those two games, he might play in two, he might play in none.”

Murphy, who has been offered a new Town contract with his current terms up in the summer, is yet to make an appearance since Jewell took over at Portman Road having broken his ankle in training just before Christmas.

The Town boss is likely to get a chance to see the former Bohemians glovesman in action when the reserves take on Luton at Kenilworth Road this afternoon (KO 2pm).

at least preston will get a nice large victory here before they go down but hey if the dark lord had stayed we might be already relegated by now as well.........instead we have the opportunity for blueskys nothing but blueskysss

Jewell Murphy has to be given a chance, no wonder he hasnt signed his nwe deal yet, he must be watching ALB in goal and wondering if he will ever get a chance to play! For me Murphy is probably our best bet at no.1 next season unless Fullop (who is a fabulous shot stopper) can spend the entire summer working on his abiltiy with crosses......

Hmmm, tough decision ahead...

Shall I pay out the best part of £100 for my wife and I to travel to Ipswich and watch our rag-tag, disillusioned and disenfranchised 'team' play newly-relegated Preston in an utterly pointless match the winning, drawing or losing of which will make no difference to anything, anywhere...

Or shall I go out with my wife and spend £100 on us having a memorable, happy day together?

Credit to every fan who continues to shell out their hard-earned cash for this dross - you can count me out though...

Christ that means Scotland will "play" up front alone again......

tractor man, would be happy with Scotland up front if we had two decent wingers giving him the ball... im not a big fan but in all fairness he is having to hold the ball up and pass it into........ no one! yesterday he was crossing the ball into an empty box when he should have been the man in the box. he isnt mobile and doesnt run around much, but if we had two decent wingers plying balls into the box he would score i am sure.

bluelady:

Murphy is only just coming back from a very nasty injury. Don't think he was fit and ready enough to be used until now, still a bit marginal.

Would like to see him play before the end of the season, tho.

Without Bullard we are the average work hard side that Keane built ,Murphy will only be second fiddle next year as he knows which is why he hasnt signed his contract. Keane signed 3 keepers after demoralising our player of the year from the season before in Wright and none of them were as good .
Jewells one loan signing has been better than all of Keanes put together ,what a waste of 2 seasons

Hey PJ, why not do something different, such as play some of the players who have not had a look in since you arrived and see how they perform compared to the cr&p that has been served up lately. Keane couldn't keep the same side week in week out and you seem unable to change it unless through injury?
Peters, O'Connor, Hyam, Eastman, Murphy etc etc. Why play the likes of Leadweight each week or Odear who surely will be gone after the season is over. Try Edwards further up field as defender he isn't. Change it around and give those fringe players a run out as the season is over and we have failed to improve on our mid table position yet again and managed to have leaked 9 goals in out last 2 games and we now have nothing to play other than league position!

At least we'll have a chance to see the difference between 'Sean St. Ledger' and Delaney & McAuley as to whether who is the better defender

After their recent shows, Preston that is, where they have been putting up a fight, a lot more than our inept lot.

I have to wonder where our goals are going to come from to beat them this Saturday.... could be another spanking

But heh, don't panic
we'll have Lee-Barrett in goal wont we? Mr Dependable

to northernblues re: your response to the changingman

You can borrow my wife, take her out and spend £100 on her!

Either way, it's a thankless task!

i agre with no bullard or whickham i would replace odea with o conner, edwards for peters push edwards on the wing have civellie on the left, murphy and norris in the middle, and either a combo of murry and carson and scotland up front prob keep scotland on the bench and lets have a pacy quick ball on the ground football as we have nothing to loose but all to gain in looking at these young starlets

As the song goes though:...........I have all ready offered to Jimmy Bullard and I see he will be free on Saturday as well, so offer may be withdrawn!

hogster:
You'd have,
as you alone write it > murry and carson and scotland up front, but also keep scotland on the bench???

And have edwards in for Peters (who hasn't been playing at all)

Yes that makes a lot of sense = > confused.com

Doesn't really matter now. Nothing to play for. Just pride, How about Murray and Scotland as a front TWO against a team already relegated?

TractorRoyNo1 added 13:08 - Apr 26
can't we just give them the points and save the petrol money

Murray and Scotland up front?
well with those two miniatures playing
at least they'll be able to wriggle between the defenders legs and at corners on one another's shoulders to cause panic in the defence
