Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Everton's Vaughan
Town Amongst Clubs Linked With Everton's Vaughan
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2011 12:44

Town, Norwich and Celtic have all been linked with a summer move for Everton striker James Vaughan, who is currently on loan at Crystal Palace. Vaughan has netted nine Championship goals over two spells with the Eagles this season.

The 22-year-old came through the youth system at Everton, making his debut as a 16-year-old in April 2005, breaking former Blues boss Joe Royle's record as the club's youngest first-team player by 11 days, a record which has since been beaten by Jose Baxter.

The Birmingham-born striker netted in that game, which was coincidentally against current loan club Palace, and became the Premier League’s youngest ever scorer.

Injuries have hampered Vaughan’s career since then and he has made only 11 starts and 49 sub appearances for the Toffeemen, scoring nine times.

The 5ft 9in tall frontman spent time on loan at Derby — after Paul Jewell and Chris Hutchings’s spells in charge at Pride Park — and Leicester before joining Palace in September for three months and then again in January for the remainder of the campaign, a loan to Celtic having fallen through. His nine goals this season have come in 28 starts and two games from the bench.

The England U17, U19 and U21 international is contracted to Everton until 2012 with Palace keen to sign him after his impressive season at Selhurst Park.

Town boss Jewell has said that adding at least one striker to his squad in the summer is a priority with West Brom’s Simon Cox amongst his targets, Doncaster’s Billy Sharp and Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith linked, and Aston Villa youngster Nathan Delfouneso having been a loan target earlier in the year.

Now that would be a signing! Just look at the number of goals he has scored for a relegation threatened club.

Let's just hope PJ is not just going to sign scousers!

excellent news. surely the club is looking to spend money. if we can sign bullard and him and then look for a full back then we may get promotion next season? :)

Vaughan looks a good bet. Certainly a player we should look at.
Bedsitfc Davies is out of contract in the summer so, worth a gamble, i think.

village_blue, I couldn't give a stuff whre PJ's signings come from as long as they can carry out the purpose they were signed for, that is score, defend or create.

Would prefer Billy Sharp. Vaughan is unlikely to be effective as a loan striker, but nonetheless a potential good signing.

Village Blue as the article says the Birmingham born striker which scouser are you referring to ? As if just playing for a team makes you from there somebody better tell our internationals !

1. Just because he scores for a club in a relegation fight means nothing - look at Lisbie. Equally, he's younger, so perhaps he can adapt more easily

2. I think he'd probably rather move to Norwich than us, if they're really serious about him

3. There are others that I'd prefer

I would put us as front runners for this one. Norwich won't be busting a gut to sign him, as they have Jackson who is exactly the same... and a bit younger perhaps..?

We, however, can offer him first team football. He can be our equivalent of Scott Sinclair next season.

so are Norwich after him AND the Peterborough guy (cant rem his name having blonde moment!). if not lets get him in scored a fare few in league on, coudl def do a job! if we do sign Vaugn (big if) it would be one of two signings up front, not good enough on his own as Jas pointed out.

Why would he come to us?? If the scum get promoted, he will always be more likely to go there won't he? We are in real danger of getting left behind here. If the scum go up, they will get all that cash and yes, they will come right back down but with their parachute payments, that propels them into a different league than us. Unless we improve quickly, we will be the graubby little urchins of East Anglia with our noses outside the sweet shop window.

Casanovacrow .. if your saying no thanks we should sign him up as you said the same about Bullard and he has been a great signing !!

Cannot see Vaughan coming here to play in front of 16000 fans next season when Norwich will get 25000 whichever division they are in. Jackson has not been a regular for them this season and Lambert does rotate successfully so that should not hold Vaughan back. As with others much rather have Billy Sharp and Wickham up front with the big little partnership. Makes good dialogue all this trandfer talk but this is all we will hear now for a few months and it can be so frustrating.

To bedsitfc, I saw Davies play on Saturday against Bury and he was hopeless. Bury were superb on the other hand

Yes please, has pace and an eye for goal, plus, with the quality balls that Bullard would hopefully supply (if his move was made permanent) then he could be our answer up front.

Him and Mackail Smith would do a fanstastic job.

One major asset Vaughan has is pace, something weven needed for ages, comes with an ego sadly.

I think it is likely we will move to a 4-4-2 next season and the thought of JV and CW up front kind of intrigues me. Add Jimmy to that mix and the "holding Defensive midfielder" and think we will have a the core of a good team going forward.

Vaughan would be class signing , he's a lively player , quick and scores loads of goals , i cant see him wanting to go to celtic as scotish football is shocking .

If hes 1 of our forwards next season , next season will be a classic , he sure knows where the net is .

He's young and coachable and has the pace and potential - why not? Priskin, Wickham, Murray and Vaughan all battling for the 2 spots! Sounds good! Now a dm and a dl with a bit o pace

Anyone else fancy Darius Henderson from sheff utd if they get relegated as they surely will, they might let him go on the cheap to get him off the wage bill.Bit like Grant Holt gets in your face and every where else

I wouldnt mind Vaughan at all as hes got pace and knowws where the net is. Its good to see Jewell looking at young hungry players aswell as having the experience of players like Bullard.

Henderson is a good shout especially as Sheff. utd are pretty much relegated. There are a load of other good players going to that we could get like Longeran, St.Ledger, Treacy and Hume off Preston and Ward off Sheffield Utd.
