Murray and Hyam Sign Deals
Murray and Hyam Sign Deals
Tuesday, 26th Apr 2011 18:01

Striker Ronan Murray and midfielder Luke Hyam have signed their new one-year deals with the Blues. The 19-year-old pair were amongst the legion of players whose current terms are up this summer.

Murray, who was recalled from a loan spell at Torquay over the weekend, and Hyam put pen to paper this afternoon.

Hyam said: “I am obviously delighted to have been handed a new contract and now I’ve got to get my head down and try and impress the manager.

“It’s been an up and down year for me, with playing games at the start of the season and then getting the red card at Reading and then tearing my hamstring.

"But I’ve been involved in the squad lately and now I’ve got to push on and show the manager that I’m worth a place in his side next season.”

Murray was similarly looking ahead to next year: “It’s a big year for me next season. I really enjoyed my time at Torquay but I’m an Ipswich Town player and want to play games here.

“The manager has shown he will give young players a chance with Josh Carson playing games and I’ve got to get myself in that situation.”

Ipswich-born Hyam made 11 first team starts and two sub appearances earlier in the season under Roy Keane's management but is yet to feature for Paul Jewell despite having been on the bench in recent weeks.

Republic of Ireland U21 international Murray scored on his first team debut at Exeter in August and has made 11 sub appearances for Town but is yet to start.

During just over a month at Torquay, the County Mayo-born frontman scored once in four starts and three sub appearances.

Town boss Paul Jewell offered new contracts to six of the club's first and second-year pros and is yet to make decisions on winger Reggie Lambe, who is on loan at Bristol Rovers, and injured midfield duo David Cawley and Jamie Griffiths.

Good news, think they both deserve a chance on Sat, well lets be honest they can't do any worse than the current players!!

Good news. I rate both of them. Surely both are worth a start on Saturday? Thought Hyam was excellent at the start of the season - before he picked up an injury. Murray can do no worse than Scotland in a loan striking role - although why not play both in a 4-4-2?

Big hopes for Hyam, looks a good youngster eager to get stuck in.

Sadly I don't rate Murray so highly.

good news, any idea whats happened to Mcualey's 'agreed terms', this time it cant be the agent accused of trying for more because wasnt it the agent that agreed terms the other day subject to Mcaualey putiting pen to paper? (not that i like agents one little bit!)

Good on you lads.

Both should start saturday as at least they are showing some commitment to the club. Some of the senior players take note and stop mucking everybody about.

I would like to see Hyam given a chance after his great start to the season, and especially as we need a defensive midfielder.

I don't rate Murray as he is only 5'7" tall, will be 20 soon and hasn't yet scored for the club, and didn't do well in his loan at Torquay in the Conference. I think he'd be hopeless in a loan striking role.

As for two-up-front, I am sure Jewell will do this when he has some decent strikers. Keane left awful options up front and I think that is why he only played one.

Lets hope Ronan hasnt had his teenage growth spert yet and Luke can put on some muscle. I thought Luke was outstanding at the begining of the season but I dont see either as part of a championship winning team. bench warmers at best.

At the risk of repeating myself yet again Clayton Donaldson (26 goals in league 2) is available on a free transfer in the summer and would in my opion be a much better bench warmer than Ronan.

Bluelady - i have a feeling he will be going along with norris, can't honestly say i will be disappointed as they have been with us a long while and we are no further forward. I think norris has had a good season but the 4-5-1 system suits him and i can't see us playing that next season and g. Mac is a good defended but how many points has he lost us other the past 2-3 seasons due to mistakes.

bedsit my only concern is Delaney looks awful when not alongside big Mac and he has already signed....... Norris def on his way i would imagine, had a lot of tiem for him but recently wish he had been more honest instead of this i want to stay rubbish when clearly he doesnt!

mark agree with u watched town reserves lose to colchester and murray got kicked to bits by matt heath and paul reid and the championship is a bit of a tougher prospect

I know I'm going to get slaughtered from some quarters for being a pedant but it's driving me mad! A loan striker is someone you've borrowed from another club for a set period of time. A striker playing up front on his own is a lone striker. That's all. Thank you.

Well done to both lads aswell as the other youngsters who have got themselves a contract. Now mr jewell let's give um a game and. Let them show us all what they can do and prove they are bigger men than the usual 1st team players . Go and get yourselves extensions and better deals. Its all up to you guys

betsitfc - 2-0 to you, I was thinking about league goals and must have missed Torquay's promotion a couple of years ago!

blueandred - you're absolutely right that it should be "lone" striker, I was just copying jas0999's spelling to be consistent! ;-)

I want big mac and Norris to stay as I believe that we need to build a squad not replace one for one, however I have heard from someone I trust that Norris has already announced to the other players he is definitely off in the summer.

Good, they are both good prospects for the future in my opinion, hopefully they will start the next game with some of the other youngsters.

On another note can anyone tell me if this site is correct about the out of contract players because if it is then there will be a lot of decent players out of contract.---- http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/spieler/vertragsende/basics_GB2.html
