Bullard: Best Decision of My Career
Bullard: Best Decision of My Career
Thursday, 28th Apr 2011 07:51

Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard says joining Town in January was the best move of his career. The 32-year-old is with the Blues until the end of the season with manager Paul Jewell having already spoken to Hull City about his possible return in the summer.

Bullard told the club site that he’s loved his time at Town: "I've really enjoyed it here. As I have said before, as soon as I walked into the dressing room I knew it was the right decision. You are never sure about things when you join a new club but it felt right.

"I have never been on loan before, even at 32, but coming here has been the best thing I have done in my whole career.

"I have scored some goals, helped win a few games, made some new mates and played for a great football club, and this is a great football club. The fans have been brilliant to me as well.

"I'm not sure where I will be next year, but put it this way though, I wouldn't be disappointed if it was here."

The former England call-up has two years remaining on his Tigers deal which is worth £45,000-a-week, 21% of their wage bill.

Town will hope to be able to do a deal with Hull which will end the former Wigan, Peterborough and Fulham man’s time at the KC Stadium, although there could also be interest from Premier League sides with Championship leaders QPR already linked.

It's good to read positive comments about Ipswich. I hope a deal can be done, but let's not break the bank for him. His current contract is Hull's problem.

This is good, in the respect that he may, possibly, be playing football for us next season, but also it proves that bigger names might want to come to our club next season if Bullard has been here.

Sounds almost positive in regards to next season...Just feel with Roy Hodgson watching the other day. For a team like West Brom this will be who he would have been keeping an eye on

Positive comments by Bullard. But a word of caution, we've been here before with Francis Jeffers. A hero for Town whilst here on loan then held out for more money than we were prepared to pay him to come here.

I remember all the stick we gave Jeffers on the opening day of the season when he had just signed for Sheff Wed. What a shame it would be if Bullard found himself in the same situation.

Although it may well be the Bullard would rather play football and be happy than sit on the bench somewhere just for more money.

2 years left on his hull contract so we will have to match that which takes him up to 34 years old, ok we wont pay £45k a week more like £15k. Can we afford that gamble. I think the best for town is a season long loan deal.

Kind words from Jimmy but for me, alot of what he is saying is past tense. Although he says he won't be disappointed to be with us next year - presumably he wouldn't be disappointed to be on 42K a week in the premier league. Furthermore, I wouldn't break that bank for him. Would be great to see him back, but at this stage it's no better than a 50/50 chance.

There may be no coincedence between this story and the 'rumour' yesterday. Jimmy and Mackail-Smith were part of a 'strong' Peterborough team (for them at least). Probably good mates off the pitch.

Mackail-Smith's position may well help Jimmy make his mind up.

I therefore believe we could get both this summer.

Some nice words from Jimmy (must have forgotten about that move to Wigan though!)

Any deal to bring him here would mean him giving up a serious amount of money. Not sure I could turn my back on £1m+...

If we can get together his 4-4.5M transfer fee then sign him up. (45k x 52 weeks x 2 years = 4.68M but shave a month or two off that). He'll then be here with a nice amount sitting in his bank account (or, no doubt, better invested) and not be bothered about a lower wage. If an agreement is made on his wages then Town will have to pay him an inflated rate and have a lower transfer fee. The question is can we afford it? Also at 32 it's a lot of money BUT he's proven to be a game changer so it's not an easy decision.

I would love him to be here next season, but we need to do some shrewd business to make it happen. Alot of it must depend on Bullard taking a lump sum, to clear his current contract and then be here on a sensible wage. there are many herdles that Mr Cleg has to jump... he coudlnt sign his own pay cheque so what hope do we have??

Thanks for putting a smile on my face on a crap season Jimmy Bullard :)

Jas Bullard would never secure a 42k a week contract now, anywhere.

Talk is cheap and there will be a long list of more enticing offers on the table.
We should enjoy his final two games in a Town shirt......providing he shakes off his latest injury.

Please Jimmy , if you really have other intentions about where you will be playing next season other than at Ipswich - please DONT trot out the usual blarny that so many players do, before they buggar off to pastures new !

Have said it b4, will carry on saying it..this guy is the key to us getting into the play-offs (minimum) over the next couple of seasons....if ME wants to get into the prem then he needs to bring in players of this quality.

We love you Jimmy - stay at ITFC!

"There may be no coincedence between this story and the 'rumour' yesterday. Jimmy and Mackail-Smith were part of a 'strong' Peterborough team (for them at least). Probably good mates off the pitch."

Except Bullard left Peterborough in 2003, and Mackail-Smith joined them in 2007.

Garv - but he would almost certainly be offered more than we could elsewhere. Particularly if a PL team did come in for him.

Read the words folks, he WON'T be an Ipswich player next season & if I was Neil Warnock he'd be my first signing.
Thanks Jimmy for all your effort, you've been a great player for us. Good luck wherever you go mate, it's a short enough career & you have to think of your future.

a newly promoted Club to the Prem will come in for him , and off he will go. I dont blame either as its his last chance to play at that level.

Although i believe every word he says and don't think he'll be here next season. My mate was out on the piss with him in Kent at the weekend, and he was saying he loves it here and the ipswich fans love him but had nothing to say about where he'd be next season. Don't think he even knows yet but i believe he is preparing to be elsewhere

has been a class act for us BUT if Hull are going to release him them a number of low premier teams will offer him a lot more money than we can afford, and those coming down may see him as a good 2 year prospect. May well have liked his time here, but on 42k for 3 years he really would have to be deeply in love with PJ to come here.
Me thinks he will be off to richer hunting grounds, but good luck to him.
