Bullard Player of the Year
Bullard Player of the Year
Saturday, 30th Apr 2011 21:05

On-loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard has won Town's Player of the Year award. The Hull City man, who joined the Blues in January, finished ahead of last year's winner Gareth McAuley in second and Connor Wickham in third.

Bullard, who has two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week deal with the Tigers, has scored five goals in 16 games in one of the club's most impressive ever loan spells.

The one-time England call-up received his gong at this evening's Supporters' Club Players' Awards evening at Greshams. It's the first time a loan player has picked up the award.

Northern Irish U21 international midfielder Josh Carson won the Dale Roberts Trophy for the Academy Player of the Year.

McAuley was named the Away Match Passport Holders' Player of the Year.

Great news. This is as much about the fans telling Clegg and Evans they want more of the same as it is about saying thanks to Jimmy

That goes to show how poor or very inconsistant all the other players have been considering he,s only been here 3 months. Would imagine he feels a tad embarassed by it all.

Well done jimmy, hope your down here for next season. Don't no about him being embarrassed if I was a squad player I would be. Another season and a outsider winning it. Dear o dear.

Agree with pinewoodblueboy, yeah Jimmy has been excellent since he joined, but he's only played a third of the season! Id like to see it as a personal message to Jimmy that he'd be very welcome here, but what it really shows is how poor the other 20+ players have been. Congrats to Jimmy and Josh Carson, more of the same next season please.

Well deserved, completely changed our season around. Just showed how uncreative and unimpressive our central midfielders were, Jewell saw this straight away whereas Keane thought the midfield needed to play like him and just be tough and no nonsense.

I voted for McAuley though, and feel he should have won it due to his consistant performances from the first game of the season till the last, pity we wont have any of the top two next year or all three by the following.

completly deserves it been our best player by a mile this season- and he hasnt been here for half of it, just proves what a terrible season we have had when a loan player wins it who has only been at the club since January same again next season Jimmy.

Ha Ha! Bet David Norris is delighted with that after an 11 goal haul from midfield! He'll be off.

It's the first time a loan player has picked up the award. I thought Colback won it last season? Well done Jimmy and well deserved.

Ridiculous. He should not even have been eligible for the award as a loan player. Everyone who voted for him should feel ashamed and embarrassed at this ludicrous result.

Jimmy Bullard - Player of the SEASON. Outrageous. Yes, he has been excellent but player of the season? No, doesn't seem right. McAuley should have won it. Nevertheless well done Jimmy.

Still, very ironic that the top three will probably not be at ITFC next season; Bullard as he will go elsewhere/too expensive; Wickham as he will be sold to a PL club and McAuley due to rank stupidity by the Club for failing to sort out his contract earlier.

More importantly, how worrying is it that our best three players may not be here next year???

Surely McAuley should have won as he was he for the whole season, the dangers of internet voting highlighted here. Voting should have been only done at the game.

Mind you like most as it had been a crap season I did a bit of tactical voting myself and voted for Bullard!

I have to agree with those who thinks that this is wrong. He has been great for us, but let's not use awards wrongfully to try and attract him back next year.

For Gareth not to win it is a real shame. He sat through then end of a difficult era with Keane and still defended well.

Let's hope next year Bullard wins it.

Not saying that Jimmy wasn't amazing (which he was!) but I feel McAuley or Norris deserve it more... Norris was outstanding as a box to box player this season, scoring 11 goals in the process from centre midfield, he works his bloody arse off (which we need more players to do) and I reckon he can potentially partner Bullard well. McAuley saved our arses so many times that I lost count, would be a massive shame to lose him to Rangers for free, same with Norris. It would be absolutely ridiculous if we lost these two key players for nothing...We might as well keep them or try to make some money from them at the very least, it's not worth losing them for free.

I can see why Jimmy won as he has made such a difference since joining us, being the key man in turning the club from relegation form to play-off form. McAuley perhaps deserved it considering the whole season, but he won't have been helped as he has not signed the new contract on offer and on the day of the vote the Daily Mail reported he is set to join Rangers!

Richard naylor was man of the match in the play off final, he didn't start the match! it's the same in principle. Well done jimmy, fully deserved in my book.
