Strike Pair and Daggers Winger Linked
Strike Pair and Daggers Winger Linked
Sunday, 1st May 2011 16:46

Town have again been linked with summer moves for Doncaster Rovers striker Billy Sharp and Dundee United frontman David Goodwillie. The Blues are also said to be chasing 22-year-old Dagenham and Redbridge winger Danny Green.

Sharp, 25, has long been linked with the Blues with manager Paul Jewell having watched the former Sheffield United man in action against his old club Derby in March. Further reports claim that Rovers value Sharp at £2.5 million.

Scottish 22-year-old Goodwillie, who according to today’s reports will be the subject of a £750,000 Town offer, was first mentioned in connection with the Blues early last month with Jewell having confirmed that Dundee United had been watched, winger Craig Conway previously having been said to be a target.

Daggers right winger Green has also been linked with Brighton and has been watched by a number of Championship sides recently.

The former Northampton and Nottingham Forest youth player dropped into non-league with Bishop’s Stortford before signing for the Daggers in May 2009. Since then the 6ft-tall Harlow-born midfielder has scored 27 goals in 93 starts and three sub appearances.

Green, who netted his 13th goal of the season in yesterday’s 3-0 League One victory over Carlisle before being sent off for a second bookable offence, is contracted to the Essex side until 2013.

Earlier in the week, the Blues were again mentioned in connection with Green's Daggers team-mate Romain Vincelot.

I'm liking the players we're being linked with. Just the sort that fans have been wanting for several years.

Yes please to Billy Sharp. Not sure about the Dundee player and know nothing about the D&R player. Good luck to Green, but he doesn;t fit into this 'men' and 'experienced' player that PJ said he wants. Billy Sharp definitely does!

Have always rated Billy Sharp, would like him here.
Relatives in Scotland (Rangers fans), tell me Goodwillie is a pacy intelligent player, who they themselves would like to see at Ibrox, evidently has a slight temperement problem though.
Seen Daggers play quite a bit this year, and Green is fast and a proper winger, who just happened to score a cracker yesterday, but then got himself sent off after losing his head and diving in.
All in all, if this is the type of player we are being linked with, then i think thi sclose season will be an exciting one, and above all productive...heres to hoping we sign players like these, and dont just get linked.

Isn't Goodwillie up on a rape charge?

It was Keane who kept going on about "men", whereas I think Jewell is more interested in footballers with a range of talents. Yes, some experience will be needed but I am sure Jewell won't be adverse to taking a gamble with lower league players as he has already shown by signing Drury, bidding for Austin and attending lots of lower league matches. Billy Sharp would be an excellent signing though, so here's hoping.

Danny Green is a top quality player. I have watched Dagenham on a number of occassions this season and have connections there. He is great with the ball at his feet and at set pieces. He also has a long throw on him. Dagenham wont let him go for nothing although wages wouldn't we a problem. Vincelot, although short, is exceptional in the air and is in double figures this season from midfield. I rate these 2 players as better than what we currently have at Town.

Also if it doesn't work out for PJ (although I hope it does) - John Still for manager.

Surely it makes sense to go for young hungry players who would probably earn more than they are now rather than 'old' men who are only going to come here for a last pay day.

Personally I hope Bullard does not sign. Surely with the problems he has with various injuries there is a good chance we might only get half a season out of him.

Plus if QPR are reportedly in for him and they dont get a points reduction (it would be funny though) then I would have thought he would prefer to go there, get similar wages to what he is currently getting from Hull and play premiership football.

Just a thought!

Hah,Goodwillie!..a name that's always raised a snigger when jeff stelling mentions him on soccer saturday.

I'll believe any signing this summer when it's signed & sealed though..we've been let down far too often over the last few seasons.

At least this is going to be a far more promising summer than the last one under keanotheclown & all his sunderland rejects.

Half a season with Jimmy Bullard is better than most. He is a proven winner and play maker as we have seen. I will be disappointed if we don't pull out all the stops to get him.

We will not get Goodwillie for £750,000 Dundee United have said he can leave but only for £2m at that price I would say no we would get better value buying someone like Sharp who knows what the Championship is all about.

Yawn, not paying too much attention to all of this talk about players we are linked to etc, until I see the headline that they have signed!

Bullard is first as he seems to make the team tick better, anyone see him on Goals on Sunday? As I missed it.

Instead of Goodwillie we should go for Russell he'd be cheaper as well.

It is all very well geting "excited" about those mentioned but will they contribute to the collective experience of the squad. Sharp excepted they all seem lacking in true experience. None seem to fit the bill of the Dad's Army Paul Jewell was referring to last week.

Mark - actually in an interview published in the EADT on 26 April - PJ said 'We have not got enough men at the moment'.

Window opens on the 31st of may (my birthday) it opens when the season finishes.

I hope we get these players. Goodwillie is rated well on fifa so he looks pretty good. Also saw the game against rangers where he scored the winning goal. COYB i hope we get shard and goodwillie.

More speculation, however, if Sharp were to join us' he would be a fine aquisition from what i have seen previously, but, hey, haven,t we already been linked with every Tom, Dick, & Harry already. Won,t be getting excited untill these "targets" have signed on the dotted line.

Rate Billy Sharp very highly. Don't know anything about the other two players. I can defintely see Billy coming to town.

Such a releif to be linked with these players, sharp and goodwillie are head and shoulders above scotland and priskin and the winger from D&R sounds like a decent player who could give any defender a hard time both aerially and with the ball at his feet! shouldnt cost to much either! also what are people thinking for CB if mcauley leaves?? i would like to see St Ledger (Preston) and Morgan (Shef u) should both be lookiing to leave as they r down, both very passionate, aerially very good and can make a very good tackle! and although Morgan isnt a particulary nice peice of work he is the type of guy u want who leads from the front and gets in the attackers face....

Yeah. like the sound of Sharp (or quite a few others) including Davies at Chesterfield. Annoys me when "supporters" rate others by their rating on FIFA or FM. I'm in Holland and still get to watch some League and League 2 football to check out players etc unlike some of the contributors on the comment sections...
