Thursday, 5th May 2011 18:12

Town striker Connor Wickham is amongst a number of young British players being eyed by Serie A giants Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

Juve's general director Beppe Marotta and technical coordinator Fabio Guild are reported to have been cultivating links with agents, scouts and experts in British football in recent months with young players in both the Premier League and Championship on their radar.

Wickham and Blackburn defender Phil Jones are claimed to be two of their youthful potential British targets.

Oh dear! Must be a shortage of young players who might make the grade in Italy so they are looking over here for young players who might make the grade!!

Floridaboy, must be the same in England when we bring in foreigners.

Wickham will leave in the Summer. If Clegg is in charge it will be for a lower fee than we - the fans - are hoping for.

Sorry jas0999 but you sir are in my opinion clueless and your comments are silly.

Wickham will only go if we get a very big bid for him, and unless that happens the rest is speculation. If he goes for silly money then I am sure Jewell can do a brilliant job investing it, and if he stays we can enjoy watching one of the most promising youngsters in the country so it's a win-win situation as I see it.

Garv - well I don't agree with yours! The purpose of this board is to state an opinion and mine is that Connor Wickham will be sold in the Summer for a fee lower than the £15M I constantly read on here.If you don't like my opinion then that's more than okay, but I am very much entitled to it.

These stories get more and more ridiculous by the day, sometimes I have to double check that its not April fools day!

I agree with you Jas.
He'll be gone in the summer for alot less than £15m.

If were lucky we'll get £5m + add on's + a percentage of the money if he is ever sold on.

Doubt he will go to Italy somehow, but i do think he may well be on his way this summer to help finance new players.

People were talking about 5-8M then Andy Carroll went for silly money to Liverpool and Connor was then "valued" at 15M. Connor is a wonderful prospect but he's done little more than a hattrick against Doncaster and a wonder goal against a despirited Sheffield United so far. Let's not start the Clegg hate based on ludicrous assumptions.

ClassyIpswichLass :- Agree. He has the 'makings ' of something special, but I'm sure even he would agree, he's far from it at the moment. Not that my opinion would sway a deal, but I would sooner he stay and develope.

ClassyIpswichLass :- What about the goal v Reading too? Agree that we probably wont get £15m, but there's no need to get depressed about it. Jas I think the issue was the negative way your post came across, I was going to respond and say that you sound really miserable, but then someone was a bit more scathing! Cheer up, because if you can't be hopeful about next year, what can you be?

large pinch of salt for this story i think, but even if there is any substance in it,cant see CW going to Juventas to have the sh;t kicked out of him, get burned out and return with shattered body and confidence.I cant see him staying at ITFC though, he will go in summer, but i would not speculate on figures .

All we see are stories claiming people want to buy him but no one ever puts the money on the table!! Could it be a touch of jackanory if anyone wanted him he would be long gone but clearly no one thinks he is worth it so put it to bed once and for all.

This seems too much to me?! I just don't believe Juventus will go for him. This is a stupid rumour. If he leaves it will be for a PM team I can't see him going abroad at this age. Anyways to say it again I would sell Connor for the right price so that we get 3-4 quality players for that money! Yes he may get as good as Rooney and cost 3,4 times that in the future but we are a club that needs the money now in order to get promoted and become a regular PM team.

Connor won't go anywhere until he wants to go and he has clearly stated on countless occasions that he is happy at Ipswich. As he improves his value will go up whilst he is GROWING UP. From what I hear he is happy at home and getting sensible advice from his parents. After all ,he is more likely to get regular games in the first team at ITFC than any of the big clubs mentioned and at that age you just want to play football - not kick your heels on the bench.ME is obviously an astute businessman who recognises a good investment when he sees it. Why offload a young player for £5 -15 mill when who knows what he might be worth in a couple of years.
I'm positive he'll still be an Ipswich player next season.

He's a kid,Juventas would ruin him .

Hilarious headline for a young man yet to prove that he is anything other than ordinary at championship level.

If it does actually happen in the summer hope part of the deal is he gets loaned back for the season. There is no point him wasting away on a bench or reserve side for the season and we get money for the improvement of the squad and one of the brightest prospects in British footy still playing for ITFC.

Such a difficult decision to keep or sell. Not from our perspective obviously but from the clubs, do they cash in on a prospect hoping he has a great season next season or do they keep him at the risk of him maybe not playing so well or him picking up an injury?

Oh, and this story is a pile of rubbish. Although didn't Robbie Keane go to Inter pretty young?
