Midfielder Josh Carson has been named in the Northern Ireland side facing the Republic of Ireland in their Carling Nations Cup clash at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Tuesday (Sky Sports One/HD1 7.30pm). Fellow Blue Damien Delaney has been named in the Republic of Ireland team.

Carson, 17, will win his first full cap and is joined in Nigel Worthington's team by exiting Blues defender Gareth McAuley, who will skipper the side, fresh from signing on at West Brom. Carson has previously won caps at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Current Town centre-half Damien Delaney, who has already won three full caps, is in the Republic of Ireland side, as is West Brom striker Simon Cox, a Blues loan target last season.

Northern Ireland: Blayney (Linfield),Thompson (Watford), Cathcart (Blackpool), McAuley (West Brom), Hodson (Watford), Carson (Ipswich Town), Clingan (Coventry City), Davis (Rangers), Gorman (Wolves), Feeney (Oldham Athletic), McQuoid (Millwall).

He is looking a very exciting prospect for us.. he will be a big player, maybe more important than wickham imo (as we have more chance of keeping him for longer)

I will watch it on sky sports now!

Well deserved. Good for his development. Made a great start to his career - perhaps went off the boil for the final four games - but who did play well? Certainly one of our better players.

Good luck to both the Ipswich boys.

Thinking about it, with 3 of the players here being available for our first team last season and other full internationals at the club, makes me wonder how the team underperformed. We have more than our fair share of full internationals compared to most Championship clubs.

Lets hope PJ can get the best out of the players and get us playing as a team. The clubs that have done well this year have had a great team ethos and strong work rate. Hopefully the ones he brings in will be the catalysts for this coupled with his know how in this division.

With Josh Carson and Connor Wickham, plus new signings, gives a good feeling for next year. Really can't wait to find out who we're going to land, lets hope the first is someone a bit special, that just might encourage a few more in realising we really do have ambitions for next term. We can only hope.
