Midfielder Josh Carson has been named in the Northern Ireland side facing the Republic of Ireland in their Carling Nations Cup clash at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Tuesday (Sky Sports One/HD1 7.30pm). Fellow Blue Damien Delaney has been named in the Republic of Ireland team.

Carson, 17, will win his first full cap and is joined in Nigel Worthington's team by exiting Blues defender Gareth McAuley, who will skipper the side, fresh from signing on at West Brom. Carson has previously won caps at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Current Town centre-half Damien Delaney, who has already won three full caps, is in the Republic of Ireland side, as is West Brom striker Simon Cox, a Blues loan target last season.

Thinking about it, with 3 of the players here being available for our first team last season and other full internationals at the club, makes me wonder how the team underperformed. We have more than our fair share of full internationals compared to most Championship clubs. Lets hope PJ can get the best out of the players and get us playing as a team. The clubs that have done well this year have had a great team ethos and strong work rate. Hopefully the ones he brings in will be the catalysts for this coupled with his know how in this division.
