Chopra Linked Again
Chopra Linked Again
Friday, 27th May 2011 08:44

Cardiff striker Michael Chopra is again linked with the Blues by some of this morning’s tabloids. Town boss Paul Jewell is said to have turned his attention to a £1 million move for the 27-year-old having had his attempts to sign Doncaster’s Billy Sharp rebuffed.

Chopra was one of ex-Town boss Keane’s main targets last season, having played for him at Sunderland, but the club weren’t prepared to pay the Bluebirds' asking price.

The one-time Newcastle trainee, who is contracted to Cardiff until 2012, scored 11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances during 2010/11 despite suffering one or two injuries.

Whether Chopra, who was first reported to be a Paul Jewell target last week, is the player the Blues boss is set to meet today remains to be seen but it appears unlikely.

If it's really 1m then it's a steal though doubt it would be that low. If true 1m for Chopra vs 3m+ for Sharp is a no brainer!

This story is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever heard. 1million for Chopra is dreamland. Chopra will always be linked. We won't get him they asked for 4mil plus last year. I don't think that would change

1m an absolute bargain, hope this means we can add further to strikers as the fee is low

notorious - it will change as Cardiff are in big financial trouble and are due to miss an installment on Chopra to Sunderland.

They have lost 12 players in the last week and still need to reduce their wage bill as their backers have got cold feet after they missed promotion.

They only have Chopra and Whittingham left who anyone would buy for more than £1m so are desperate and we are right to take advantage.

Wow much cheaper than last year.

Only problem I see is that he didn't do / score much this season.

It's a shame we couldn't sign Chopra last season - but £4M was over the top. £1M seems very reasonable though - BUT can we afford his wages?

just a suggestion but why not forget copps buy chopra for 1 to 1.5 and then offer 3 to 3.5 for sharp

£1 million should be our budget for a striker, Wickham will be the main man anyway next year. Chopra decent for the squad, if we play 442 we will have any 2 from Wickham, Chopra, Priskin and Scotland.

Happy with that - now sort Bullard and Dyer and an anchorman out!

Remember if Chopra is the player PJ is speaking to today then a fee must have already been agreed with Cardiff, he is still under contract and we would need permission to speak to him.

Buyer beware, this guy is getting on now, with our current midfield options I don't see him getting us 20 + goals a season now, this would probably be his last move so will be just in it for the cash, why can't we find someone younger and hungrier from Div 1 or 2 with a point to prove and a name to make, this seems like either more poor journalism or the club just not looking hard enough, probably both, CMS from Posh would be younger, quicker option.

If a 1 mill bid is true, this puts the Billy Sharp offer into perspective. No way are those two fellas worth 4 mill. Liverpool have just bid that for Enrique!

People there is just not the money anymore, we are very very lucky to have Marcus backing us, this bid could also be used as bate for Doncastor.

Anyway I have a good feeling here and I'm sure most fans would welcome chops with open arms!

The fee would be vastly reduced on last year due to his only having a year left on his contract and he's had a couple of injuries this season.

Getting on a bit? he's 27 - that's prime age for a striker - how about getting Whittingham as well?

Also rumours are (from my mate who's a forest fan) that Billy Davies could be on his way today and they are in dire straits financially, so lets see who we can raid from them!

Tractorboy2334, Makaill-Smith is 27, same age as Chopra, got 1 goal in 4 while in the championship year before last (10 in 43), Chopra has 1 in 3 (36 in 99). While he may have less pace he maybe cheaper as his contract has a year less on it and he's percieved to be on the wane but to be fair he scored more than Bellamy in an injury hit season.

Tractorboy - 27 is hardly over the hill and probably not his last move. As for CMS being younger, they are the same age

I cant believe the player Jewell is talking to today is Chopra because it would have been announced that we hAVE HAD A BID ACCEPTED by cardiff and has been allowed to go for talks. It must be an out of contract player as dont need permission to talk to them

Think it would be a great signing, but all just speculation for the moment. Am on a day off today but don't fancy camping out to find out who it is, i'm sure Phil has his people on it though. Nice to see something happening, and would be good if we made a signing to signal intentions and to show other targets that Jewell is building something here.
