Bullard's Future Still Up in the Air
Bullard's Future Still Up in the Air
Saturday, 28th May 2011 14:23

Loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard says he is still unsure where he’ll be playing football next season. Town’s Player of the Year, who was speaking on this morning’s Soccer AM, was unaware of newspaper claims of interest from Norwich City, although he didn't rule out a possible summer move to Norfolk.

The 32-year-old says his future remains up in the air and that he hasn’t been able to get hold of Hull City manager Nigel Pearson: “I don’t know [what’s going to happen].

“I tried to phone the manager and everyone at Hull's on holiday! I’ve got two years left at Hull and I enjoyed my time there.

“What I want to do is play some football somewhere. I wasn’t playing at Hull, so to get some football next season would be top of the list.”

Bullard was unaware of newspaper links with the Canaries but didn’t dismiss the possibility of a switch north of the border: “Fantastic club, they did brilliant to get in the Premier League, so who knows? I haven’t been [taking any notice of speculation]. “

The former Peterborough and Fulham man revealed that doesn’t have an agent, choosing instead to discuss his deals himself, something he says doesn’t always go down well with managers: “I usually do [the negotiations] myself.

“It’s quite difficult sometimes. [Managers] don’t like confrontation a lot of them. Sometimes when it comes to contracts I can be [confrontational]!”

Bullard joked that his Town Player of the Year gong was more down to the rest of the squad’s failings than his own good displays and says he was surprised to win having played only 16 games: “We went to a function and they called my name out and I thought they were messing about. But they weren’t, I had won Player of the Year from the fans, which is great for me.

“I really enjoyed it at Ipswich, it was really good. I had three months there. I wasn’t playing at Hull, so I went down on loan and I enjoyed my time there under Paul Jewell. We had a good ending to the season, won a few games there and I scored a few goals.”

In addition to Town and Norwich, QPR have been tipped as other contenders for the one-time England call-up’s signature, while Bullard’s former clubs Wigan and West Ham have also been linked.

didnt hear anything to suggest a REAL affiliation with us, i dont think we will see him here based on watching him this morning. I honestly think staying at Hull & playing is his first choice.

He's still a Hill player at the end of the day, maybe we can get a season long loan?

Sadly, I don't think there is much of a chance of JB signing for us. I watched the interview and he spoke more highly of Norwich than us!! Bottom line is if the offer is there, JB will sign for a Premier league club. Don't get me wrong, JB is a great player - albeit he shone against some below average ones. I hope we can sign him, but financially I just can't see it happening.

I doubt we'll be signing him now, but there's still hope.

Go on Marcus chuck £6 million at it and we've got a star player and ready made captain for our promotion season!

Adds at least 15 goals through set-pieces alone and the crowd love him!

Jimmy, you got Player of the Season for saving the season–without you, we're down.

No chance of him coming back, I'm afraid. I have no idea how we're going to replace him–especially the personality he brought to the team.

Are you insane Pazelle? 6m for a 32 year old injury prone player. He's good but not that good. It's that sort of mentality that saw Finidi George come to town, and we all know how that chapter finished.

...... I've said before that he has played his last game for us - and what an embarrassment for him and everyone associated with this Club, that he was voted Player of the Year.
Just proves how our Club's standing, and reputation, has dropped for it EVER to have happened.
Hang your heads in shame all who voted for him.

i would love him to sign but he is 32 so he isnt a long term answer and the cost for him will be high.
we need to learn what someone like him can give us, quality on the ball and an atmosphere in the changing room what we need is a 22 year old jimmy.

Yeah yeah 'i want to play football'. Of course, every footballer does. You will also take every penny you can get hence not allowing an agent to take a cut, being confrontational and managing to wangle a 45K a week deal!

He's going wherever the cash is.

h32 - I have to agree that JB being voted player of the year after just 17 games is utter madness. However, what on earth does that say about the others? Without JB goodness who's where we would have finished!

Worryingly, others who featured near the top of the voting - McAuley and Norris have already left (on frees - more madness) and there must be a question mark over Wickham's future! Worrying.

P.s. the poster who suggests we should spend £6M on an injury-prone 32 year old - I assume you are joking?!

h32, i voted for Jimmy as Player of the season, Why? well without his influence, goals & general abilty we would have been playing in League 1 next season, the dross we had when PJ took over, who weren't "doing it" for me he did more for our season in 16 matches, than the majority of our squad did all season, So no I will not hang my head in shame.
By the tone of his interview, we have seen the last of him, he's talking in past tense which doesn't bode well, at the end of the day if he can get PL football he's going to, good luck to him.
As for us, well we need to build a NEW team from scratch in my opinion, get shot of the dead wood, realistically we need a new: GK, 2 x CBs, 2 x FBs, 2 x CMs, 2 x CFs, i doubt we'll see 9 new faces, but thats what it will take to make us play off contenders.

@Jas0999

I wasn't joking, £3 million to buy out his current contract and £1 million a year for 3 years here!

Come on Marcus you invisible madman!

Bullard whichever club is playing in the Premiership, who happens to want to run the "risk " of offereing him a contract.

If scum are the ones likely to do that (they are only likely to be able to attract either young perhiperal players that cant get into another premiership club's side, or ageing players looking for that one final shot at a PL contract), its a no brainer really. And if scum fans are deluding themselves (yet again) that they are a "special" club, they are, as usual, living in cloud cukcoo land!

I voted for Kieron Dyer for player of the year!! Screw Jimmy Bullard and his "personality"

He doesn't have an agent and managed to negotiate himself a £45K-a-week contract on his own?! Wow!

I didn't see the interview but it doesn't sound like Ipswich featured so I guess he won't be coming here.

More worrying is that we haven't yet signed anyone when Norwich have. Last summer they finished all their business before we announced the signing of Connor Hourihane, and I'm worried it will be another repeat of last summer.

He's not going to say anything about anywhere is he? He wants to play football he doesn't want to insult Hull or anywhere because he won't be ruling any club out! Foolish to think he'd be blaring on about wanting being at ITFC.

RetroBlue added 17:00 - May 28
who's to say we havent signed anyone yet? I wouldnt be surprised to see several players all paraded as new signings , at one and the same time.

Town could have clinched deals with various players (we have been talking to clubs for "several months" about our targets)....no in the close season , we negotiate terms with the agents, PJ meets the players, deal is sgined, and the player (s) go off on their hols.

Just because Town have not announced anything - doesnt mean they have not signed.

Sounds like he isnt really to bothered about Ipswich and nothing that we havent heard before! Howevcer if he was to go up to Norfolk my opini9on of him would drop hugely as im sure many Ipswich fnas would feel slightly let down!!

its stating the obvious to say that we need about half a team to compete next season but lets not forget the playoff final hasnt been played yet so technically the season isnt over so lets not panic.....yet.
Alot of good players have been released on frees this summer and this is a market we MUST succeed in using as it could allow us to spend that little bit more on the real key positions, IMO CB,RB,LB,CM,CF.
Kuqi, Dyer, Sol to name a few realistic targets.

Some people on here are unbelieveable. I watched the interview this morning and didnt disagree with anything he said. He was our player of the season because frankly the squad played so poor for the majority and when he came along he was shining every game.
As for his connection with Ipswich, he is still contracted to Hull so of course he isnt gonna shout out he is coming back here incase negotiations with Town do not start or never happen. As for connection with Norwich I cannot blame him for not saying no - negotiations will prob happen quicker there (look at James Vaughans speedy transfer) and he is a football player who realistically needs paying for his job and will play for whoever pays his bills
