Preston: We Want to Keep Treacy
Preston: We Want to Keep Treacy
Monday, 30th May 2011 17:06

Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay says his club want to hold on to reported Town target Keith Treacy for next season’s League One promotion campaign. One of this morning’s papers claimed the 22-year-old would join the Blues when he returns from international duty next week.

But Lindsay says the former Blackburn man is amongst those the Lilywhites want to keep as they look to return to the Championship at the first attempt: “We will only be letting players go if it suits us.

“I would be totally against Keith Treacy leaving, he is such an exciting player on the ball and can be a prolific goalscorer from the wing when he’s on form.”

Treacy himself has said he’s not keen on life in the third tier: “I want to play at the highest level I possibly can.

"I feel maybe the Championship, or the Premiership at a push, would be ideal for me. I think I’m a little bit better than League One, if I’m being honest.”

Preston were previously reported to have turned down an £800,000 bid for the £1 million-rated Treacy from Burnley, while Nottingham Forest have also been linked.

I'm mildly amused at the PNE Chairman's comments.

His optimism is to be admired yet will prove to be wholly futile.

Never mind!

Get him in!Quality player.

Wonder if with Swansea going up they will hang onto their pacey winger, Nathan Dyer. Really rate him, but can't help but think the Swans may well hold onto him..

Yes, I'm sure Nathan Dyer, Swansea's fans player of the year, would jump at the chance of joining the mighty Ipswich, rather than playing in the Premiership.

If not when he signs then when can get excited. How many is it now that were going to sign? Westwood, some bald headed player seen in a taxi, nugent/any centre forward without a club, st ledger, tranmere left back, et al.

Getting boring now.

Swansea might bring new players in and allow him to leave, maybe on loan?

Preston have to say that. To make his value go up.

Now they have been promoted I wonder if Swansea will show any interest in signing Priskin? Me thinks not somehow.

Nice one. Cue the increased bid from another club.

increasingly im starting to think that it would be more accurate to actually state who Ipswich have not been linked with.

Getting rather tedious being linked to everyone who has ever kicked a football.

Absolute JOKE! He'll never stay... However I am suprised I haven't been linked with ITFC yet, I did once play in the inter-school football final in year 8 at Playford Rd... I expect Clegg will call soon. ;) Can't we just sign someone already!!!

So that obviously means: "He's leaving for sure, and we want to push up the price as far as we can." Wouldn't be bad as our first signing. Long way to go yet, though.

Sorry but Darlington have just put in a better bid than Town... you are off to the North east.

Here we go again! Will we actually land any of our targets? Time will tell, but sadly I have little/no faith in Clegg.

PNE are a bigger club than ours. He wont come here. In fact he will go anywhere other than here. ROLL on the next rumor.....

It would be nice to think he'd sign, even if only to shut up the pessimists ! The playoffs only finished to-day.

DiamondGezzer. You make a very good point sir. As the season has only ended today, players/managers/chairman on their holidays, etc, bugger all will really start to happen on the transfer front for a few weeks yet. We,re not in June yet, be patient fellow town fans, we dont need to rush out & break the bank trying to sign big time charlies. Look at the mess Middlesbrough got into last season & where patience & signing hard working team players got the budgies. I know which route i prefer our club to persue.

PNE are a bigger club than Ipswich? Yeah alright then, and what exactly is that assessment based on? Being linked with everyone under the sun is annoying, but I like Treacy, good intelligent and creative attacking player. £1 million or just under is a good but for a young player, we need to start building, a couple of players of the same calibre would do nicely, that said I'm not expecting much better than top half finish. Wish people would shut up about clegg, just throwing money at players wont help a promotion push, just make us an attractive option for over the hill players wanting a final pay day.

Once again I find myself agreeing with Jas0999 and sadly I also have no faith in Clegg or other members of the non-footballing management team at our club and do no expect there to be any "big name" signings at all this summer.

Success next season? And Sean Annah, sorry, but no way can I even see a top half finish next season! But anything above mid-table will have to be viewed as successful next season.

Having cost the above gloom, I shall nonetheless be back down next season willing the team on. COYB!
