Sunderland Youngster Linked Sunday, 26th Jun 2011 10:33
Town, Barnsley and Derby are all keen on taking young Sunderland striker Ryan Noble on loan, according to reports in the North-East. The 20-year-old spent time with the Rams last season but a back injury meant that the Wearside-born frontman made only one sub appearance while at Pride Park.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is said to want to take a look at the 6ft tall frontman in pre-season before deciding whether to send him out to a Championship club for 2011/12.
Noble, who spent the final couple of months of 2009/10 at Watford without making an appearance, broke into the Sunderland side towards the end of last season, making three appearances as a substitute. The previous year he had made his senior bow as a sub in an FA Cup victory over Barrow.
A regular member of former Town frontman Keith Bertschin’s reserves side at the Stadium of Light having come through the ranks at his hometown club, Noble has won six caps at England U19 level, scoring one goal.
Despite signing Nathan Ellington and Michael Chopra, the Blues could well look at signing another striker if Connor Wickham, the subject of an offer from Sunderland and interest from amongst others Liverpool, or Jason Scotland, who is being chased by Sheffield Wednesday, move on this summer. Town would also listen to offers for Tamás Priskin, while youngster Ronan Murray could be in line for a loan with Colchester understood to be interested.
Meanwhile, Burnley are reported to have offered Celtic £400,000 for ex-Town loan defender Darren O’Dea.
Former Town right-back Sito has been linked with a summer move from Salamanca to Celta Vigo. The Spaniard joined his current club having been released by the Blues in 2008.
Elsewhere, ex-Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos scored a stunner as Mexico came from two goals down to beat the US 4-2 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final yesterday. Dos Santos looks set to move back to Spain this summer with his former loan club Racing Santander and Sevilla both interested in the £4 million-rated 22-year-old.

Gio's still only 22! Ar man let's get promoted and get him back here ASAP! Never heard of Noble, don't think we need any more strikers but Scotland has to move on soon, hope Priskin stays and get's involved next season.
What is it with Sunderland? It is it lazy journalism to link us with every Sunderland player? I guess the press struggle for copy in the post-Keane era!
Noble - I don't see a point in loaning a 20-year-old striker who has never scored a league goal. Why develop players for other clubs?! Unless they are exceptional talents that add something, or loans are with a view to a permanent move, there is little point.
O'Dea - Not worth £400K in my opinion. I wonder how much we paid for a loan fee to get him last season? £400K probably. ;-)
What a great goal. Thanks Phil and Ipsuefa. I still chuckle at 'Arry's remark "If he could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass the ball he'd be alright!. Sign him up!
Spoke to my mate who is a Sunderland fan and he rates this guy highly. He said he's a typical poacher, always seems to be in the right place at the right time and is rapid.
Who ever says we can't get Dos Santos because were in the championship I'd say is wrong, I'm not saying I think it's easy though. Last year players like yakubu and Bellamy were playing in the championship admittedly both on loan but theres a high chance they could go back. Then there are some very big name managers, Sven and mcclaren etc.... Btw leicster are playing Real Madrid in pre season so don't tell me a championship team can't attract quality.
hamster, I agree the championship can attract quality and have some very good/big name managers. However imo Dos Santos is world class and more importantly at a very good age. The players you mention have been world class but are nearing the end of there careers and that's why I said what I did. Obviously I respect your opinion though.
Derby now claim to be heading the chase for Noble as Wickham has signed for Sunderland (according to a Derby Website !!) I do hope not on both counts, if Derby start to beat us to signings we're sunk to a new all time low.
Not sure what this Noble lad is like, but I'm not sure anyone else does for sure . . much like Connor, has potential, I'm just not sure he's got half as much!
