Meekings on Trial With Butcher's Caley
Meekings on Trial With Butcher's Caley
Monday, 27th Jun 2011 12:56

Released academy centre-half Josh Meekings has joined Terry Butcher’s Inverness Caledonian Thistle on trial. The SPL side have already begun their pre-season programme ahead of the 2011/12 campaign.

Meekings and fellow defender Rory McKeown were the only academy scholars released by the Blues at the end of last season. TWTD reported Caley’s interest in the 18-year-old in April.

Town begin their own pre-season preparations on Friday, not Wednesday as initially planned, although a number of academy players returned to Playford Road to get an early start last week.

A very tough centre half- excellent young player for us last season. One to watch certainly for the future.
Shocked that him and Rory McKeown left- they were our young stars last season. Not as if we don't need defenders....

PJewellisagod :- Agree. I was suprised when they were released. Our loss being somebody elses gain I suppose. But once again, we didn't see them every day in training.

Big Tel should be able to recognise a talented Centre Back, so maybe we made an error of judgement on this one....

If he's going to make the grade as a CB he couldn't have a better mentor.

Butcher is clueless as a manager !!!!! Great player but can only get a job in the crap Scottish leagues these days. Wasn't he voted Coventry and Sunderland's worst ever managers by their fans ??

Whoppit you really are a budgie aren't you.

Butcher has been very good for ICT and as for "worst ever" Coventry manager I think the queue for that title stretches from the Ricoh Arena and almost reaches your home.... which (of course) will be the closest anyone in Norwich has ever been to a title.

Tractorog be gentle with whoppit the heat really is so difficult for kiddiwinks to deal with. If you give him, say, 15 to 20 years he might grow up. If not take him to the vets and have him put down.

I love some of the rantings and ravings in response my my posts. I say Butcher is a crap manager. This is based in facts. He was a disaster at Coventry was he not? He was a disaster at Sunderland was he not? The only other places he has managed at was Australia and Scotland. Not exactly a hugh standard is it not? So, if he is so good as a manager, why has he not been back in English football for the last 20 years?? Yes, because he is a crap manager. GREAT player without any doubt.

Why not argue with the facts rather than just call me a Budgie scumbag??

Because I am right that's why !!!!!

whoppit probably because you have made yourself pretty much the most disliked poster on this site so anything you say will be slatted, no-ones fault but your own with your rude and bullish behaviour.

Actually Whoppit Butcher was sacked by Coventry when they were mid-table and his record is not that bad there having taken over when they faced the drop. Sunderland and Coventry were also when he was a fairly young manager.
He loves living in Scotland. Managing a small club like ICT so long and so relatively successfully takes a form of success that perhaps you are too inexperienced to recognise.
You can say the standard of football is not high. If Butcher was playing that would be a fair comment, but a manager can only manage the club he has in the league he has. Yes if he were a better manager he might have been up for the Chelsea job or something, but this is not Fantasy Football and we are talking about an ex Ipswich schoolboy being taken under the wing of one of the ALL TIME GREAT Ipswich and England centre back. Good on the lad I say.
All I read from you is negative.
If we were Arsenal or Chelsea then the inherrited TV pundit opinions you voice would be fair comment, but we're a small club with herritage and ambitions but the limited options that playing in the Championship implies. Our manager and our players are likewise. Some of them will rise to greatness - but your damning of everything and everyone associated with our club is not the kind of support it deserves.
In short, you are wrong. Very, very wrong.
