Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Thursday, 30th Jun 2011 11:49

Leicester City are reported to have agreed a £1.2 million fee with Preston North End for centre-half Sean St Ledger, a Town target in January and again this summer.

The Irish international is set to begin talks regarding personal terms with the Foxes and the deal appears likely to go through without complications.

Despite having signed free agent Ívar Ingimarsson after his release by Reading, Blues boss Paul Jewell wants to add another central defender to his squad with Gareth McAuley, Troy Brown and Tom Eastman all leaving the club this summer.

Last week, Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce, another player believed to be interesting Town, joined Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Leicester are also reported to be in talks with Sheffield United regarding striker Ched Evans, another player mentioned in connection with Town this summer.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman says he wants to keep former Blue Owen Garvan at Selhurst Park, despite his lack of involvement at the end of last season and a £250,000 offer from rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

If he's genuinely been of interest, I'm sure PJ would have put a decent bid in for St Ledger.

Not everyone wants to live in Suffolk!!

Why are some people saying bid 1.25 or 1.3 - If 1.2 has been accepted then that is all you need to offer. Then let him decide.

Thought PJ was pals with the Chairman at PNE couldn't he had a word in his shell like? Not bothered about Evans.

How very embarassing for PJ and Clegg. Go their fingers on the pulse and made all those telephone calls, but failed to even make an offer.

If Leicester are going to bid on all the players we are linked with could we not release a story linking us with some utter dross?

Priskin and Leadbitter, anyone?

Good news as far as I'm concerned. Not tall enough and no pace looked useful at PNE in his early days but awful at Boro and not wonderful last season. Need a big powerful and quick centre half and St. Ledger fits none of those requirements. Only my opinion.

leicester seem to be the big buyers in the league this close season. Seem to be going places,
However this is not a loss to us. Not in the same league as gareth

Re St Ledger it's not just about the fee, I expect he see's Leicester as a more ambitious club, high profile manager and lots to spend. As a player I can't say I blame him.

So while PJ visits Mickey in Florida Sven nips in and steals St Ledger.
Great.

Personally not concerened if we don't sign St Ledger, not a bad player but not great either.

met a PNE fan before last game of season who laughed that we were up for St ledger. He claimed he was a reason for a lot of their goals leeked last season and was a liability. He told me Tracey was the one to watch.

I too was a bit concerned about St. Ledger's height, so not to worry. Let's hope Jewell can find a really good addition to centre back elsewhere.

Don't worry, Jewell has been working on this for weeks, if St Ledger was his first choice he'd have bid by now. He will have a number of options in mind and I suspect that he is working on other options as yet not identified. The only reason that there was all this speculation about St Ledger was because their chairman blabbed about our interest to try and generate other bids. On the Leicester issue, clearly Sven backs PJs judgement more than his own, so he's adopted a tactic of waiting to see who PJ rates and then bidding for them! As someone else said we should stick a few red herrings out!
