Rotherham Confirm Brown Deal
Rotherham Confirm Brown Deal
Friday, 1st Jul 2011 17:06

League Two Rotherham United have confirmed that they have signed former Town defender Troy Brown, as first reported by TWTD in May. Brown, who has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, opted against accepting a third successive one-year deal at Portman Road, having initially indicated that he would be staying with the Blues.

Millers boss Andy Scott says he has known the Wales U21 international since he was a scholar at Fulham: "Troy is another young lad we have managed to sign.

"I have known him since his days at Fulham. He has good pace and good passing ability and he has played a few games for Ipswich.

“He now wants to establish himself as a first team player and he is hungry to do well. I have known his agent for a long time and between us we convinced him that it was the correct place to come to."

Despite the Londoner being below 24 years of age and having been offered a deal by the Blues, Town are not entitled to compensation with the defender’s new contract offer understood to be on reduced terms, as was the case with Tom Eastman, who joined Colchester earlier in the summer.

After being released by Fulham’s academy, Brown joined the Blues on trial in the summer of 2009, impressing first Jim Magilton and then Roy Keane before being offered a deal at Portman Road.

Having made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield United on the final day of the 2009/10 season, the centre-half or occasional right-back went on to make 10 starts and seven sub appearances while with Town.

Yeah I agree with the posters above, looked like a good player. Would've loved Brown and Smith to be our future partnership at the back.

he'd rather be a big fish in a small pond though? dropping to league2 is quite a difference. most league2 players would bite your hand off if you offered them a 1 year deal at ITFC

Best of luck Troy - disappointing that both he and Eastman left for nothing. Must sign a CB to replace them. Not convinced Smith is good enough.

I was suprised he was only offered a one year deal, unsurprsed he didn't accept, more than suprised he's dropped to league two.

Think he'll regret this decision, he should have given Town another year, thought he had potential.

With so few centre backs and only Edwards at right back brown offered good cover and showed he had potential..... think this is a bad move as leavesus very short, still can understand why he would turn down bench warming and a reduced contract for guaranteed football, just a shame we couldn't have sent him on loan for a year to see how he did with regular games.

Good Luck and a good attitude to want to drop down the leagues to find first team football.

Also backs up what Jewell thought to only offer him a short contract, as other L1 or Championship clubs would have taken him if he was that good now.

I agree with you completely bluelady. The reduced contract offer must have been disheartening. Nevertheless, I do have confidence that Jewell and company know what they are doing.

Troy, your being to modest! You're far better than league two, but as other posters have said, I do understand that you're leaving as we were offering another 1 year deal on even lesser terms. Sorry to see him go, think he had potential to become a first teamer. "Martus", have you seen Troy play? He's actually pretty comfortable with the ball at his feet...
