Magilton Joins Shamrock Rovers
Magilton Joins Shamrock Rovers
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 10:03

Former Town manager and skipper Jim Magilton has joined League of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers as a temporary assistant to boss Michael O’Neill. The two previously played together for Northern Ireland.

O’Neill says Magilton will work alongside him with the Dublin club while he looks for a longer term deputy: “I thought Jim's other commitments in Northern Ireland and the UK would prevent him helping me at this crucial stage of the season.

“I was delighted when he said he would assist me until I find the right candidate for the job on a permanent basis.

“He brings not only a wealth of knowledge and experience of the game at the highest level, but he is someone I trust implicitly, and that was a key factor in my decision.”

Magilton, 42, has been out of work since leaving QPR in December 2009, having been dismissed by Town in the preceding April.

How the mighty have fallen. Surely there's an SPL job out there Jim could get?

Why would he want to drop down from LOI to the SPL?

Whoppit your comments do make me laugh but on this occasion you are not far off the mark. Legend - I don't think so. Crawford, Phillips, Beattie, Wark etc legends Jim does not fit into that category I'm afraid - neverthless though a good player for us.

What is it with people thinking JM is a legend?

Did nothing of any GREAT note for Ipswich. (one outstanding game against Bolton maybe). One swallow don't make a summer.

Ipswich legends are people like.... John Wark, Ray Crawford, Mick Mills, George Burley etc etc. To name just a few of many. Jim is no where near in this league of ex Ipswich.

Although I rated Jim very highly as a player, sadly I didn't as a manager - and would seem after his outburst at QPR few other clubs rate him either! Still, all the best Jim - best memories as a player.

Good memories as a player, not many as a manager. Would like to think he could make it as a manager but i have my doubts. He was the cheap, easy option for us at the time & got found out pretty quickly. However, good luck Jim, i, like others on here think this may just be your level in managment.
