Chopra Confirms Town Move Was Close Last Year
Chopra Confirms Town Move Was Close Last Year
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 15:24

Striker Michael Chopra has confirmed that he was close to joining the Blues last summer. Ex-boss Roy Keane made his former Sunderland frontman his number one target a year ago but the move failed to take place because the clubs couldn’t agree a fee, the Bluebirds then wanting around £3 million for the one-time England U21 international’s services.

Chopra, speaking in a Radio Suffolk interview, said: “I think last year I was pretty close. I think it was just the transfer fee between the two clubs. But I was still contracted to Cardiff City and you’ve got to honour your contract and continue to give your best for the club.

“I did that last year and obviously it’s a new season this year. I spoke to the gaffer at Ipswich about his plans and I was happy to come.”

The 27-year-old, who signed a three-year deal at Portman Road for a £1.5 million fee last month, says he’s confident that he can continue to score regularly with the Blues: “All the clubs I've been at I've scored goals. I believe if get the right service and players alongside me then I'll score goals, no doubt about it.

"I'm a player that will play in the box and I'm always hungry to get goals and hopefully I can do that this year. I believe I will."

Why do we need to know this? we need to know about NEW signings, like the one that was supposed to happen yesterday with another close behind!

Yeah good point harvey, god damn Phil for posting these stories about our players and forcing us to read them!

Had he arrived last year I wonder how different things would be now. His goals could easily have stopped us flirting with relegation and Keane would probably still be here.

Is someone getting these quotes from stalking Chops around the boozers and bookies?? Didn't he also injure his ankle one time by celebrating too much? Apparently, he was jumping up and down in joy as he got unlimited nudges on the bandit !!!

Whoppit this awful guy had the decency last night to have a chat with my young son, made his night. Very amiable and clearly very up for wearing a town shirt, why do you enjoy making yourself look an idiot over and over again, is it some kind of cheap thrill?

Can anyone see the point of this story, just another one added to the site when there is no news, who cares what he nearly did last year, what is this, a kid's comic.

I thought this was forum about Ipswich, clearly if you don't want to read about Town players and just want information on the done deals then wait for them to be announced on Sky.
That will probably be several hours after Phil puts them on here, keep up the good work

Anyone would think people had to read this article, although those saying 'i dont care what nearly happened last year', clearly have not read the entire article as it goes on to say what he hopes to achieve this coming season - I for one like to know the attitude of our new signings.

Key quote: 'I believe if get the right service' - well at the moment I simply don't see who at the club (midfield wise) will create chances? PJ has to replace Bullard and Norris - BEFORE the season starts.

SouperJim added 18:31 - Jul 6
Thanks for that jas, I don't think we're aware and PJ certainly isn't, it's not like we've been linked with several premiership quality midfielders *cough* Bullard Dyer Koumas Bowyer Reo-Coker *cough*

Bluelady, i,m sure whoppit is a budgie masquerading as a Town fan with his irquesome comments just to wind up us reasonable fans with the continuous drivel that eminates from all of his posts. Perhaps if we all just ignore him, he,ll crawl back into his hole (eventually)............. On a more positive note, glad to hear Mr Chopra had the time to make your young sons evening.

we need far more quality signings like him if we want to make any impact.

good player, so we 'saved' £1.5m but wasted a lot of that on Scotland and badly missed Chopra's sharpness
