Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 22:50

Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer looks set to complete his move to Portman Road next week. Talks with the one-time England international’s representatives have continued over the last few days with news of the Blues’ interest in the former Leeds, West Ham and Charlton man having broken over the weekend.

Earlier today, David Lee, an agent working for Skillequal, the company who represent Bowyer, appeared to hint that the 34-year-old was close to completing his switch to the Blues when he tweeted: “ITFC have a very interesting player signing soon!”

He later added: “Just to let the Ipswich fans asking I can't say who the player is but [the] deal should be done next week!”

Free agent Bowyer is currently understood to be on holiday abroad and could sign on the dotted line on his return, in time to be involved in next week’s two-game pre-season tour of Holland. TWTD understands that the Blues could also sign another player in time to make the trip across the North Sea.

Despite some fans reacting angrily to the news of Town’s move for the controversial Londoner, a TWTD poll currently sees 71% of fans backing his addition.

I'm sure opinion will be split on this one but I'm happy he's signed. Think he'll do a good job for us.

I was originally againsts his signing. But now I have thought about it and have realised that this could be one of the signings of the summer in the championship. Welcome to Ipswic Lee!

Even if you let all the previous off-pitch stuff of 1996 and 2000 go (and I'm willing to give him a chance to prove that he's matured/reformed since then as far as that aspect of his character's concerned) - in the past 9 months he's proved that he's still a thug on it - stamping on an opponent's head, stud-raking, verbally abusing a fan.
He'd better damn well keep his nose clean whilst an employee of ITFC is all I can say.

That will do for me. The past is the past (Remember he was found NOT guilty). All i care about is what he brings to the team this season.

and still they keep coming! the signings so far have been nothing short of brilliant. i would think in this case one thing in our favour is our proximity to london... but i reckon he can also sense a real chance of top 6... i will welcome him and those that think we shouldn't be associating ourselves with "someone like him" should grow up, for reasons already mentioned in the last few days.

great news, Quality, Experience and goals no fee you can't moan at that.
Although a great capture for the club, No more over the age of 30 please. We need to get the balance right between experience and youth.

Get Reo Coker too that would be impressive.

I remember his first game at Portman road many moons ago for Charlton and exactly like jim Magilton's first game at Portman road for Oxford, he absolutley shone out like a beacon as someone who could run a game. He may have been a nasty oik in his time, but as long as he delivers on the pitch, i am not too concerned (would anyone have any issues if we signed Woodgate for the same reasons, not me)
He is 34, but this is not an issue - a quality player
GREAT signing
p.s. a cat in hell's chance of Dyer coming now, but Bowyer has a much better fitness record

Class act, had a cracking season last year, scored against Chelsea but 34 means he's hardly a long term option and his wages can't be too dissimilar to Bullard's.

Someone with some battle in him. Just what we need. Now for Reo & Haroun

Superb signing. Well done Clegg and Jewell (& co)...an effective partnership it seems.

We've just had a thug as a manager for a couple of years, so I have little issue about the Bowyer of today. And at least he's not connected to Fake Fan United or someone whose temper tantrums are genuinely childish - like Keane.

We would perhaps have preferred Reo-Coker, but any of those two would be immense signings for a championship club.

COYB!!
