Hourihane on Trial at Plymouth
Hourihane on Trial at Plymouth
Monday, 25th Jul 2011 16:03

Midfielder Conor Hourihane has joined League Two Plymouth Argyle on trial. The Irish U21 international signed a new six-month contract with the Blues in May.

Hourihane, 20, joined Town from Sunderland a year ago and despite appearing on the bench on a number of occasions is yet to make his first team debut.

The Cork-born player was taken on the recent two-match pre-season tour of Holland but failed to make an appearance and looks to be out of Paul Jewell's plans.

Fellow Irishman Shane O'Connor is currently on trial with Crawley Town, who are weighing up whether to offer the 21-year-old a contract.

I wondered what he looked like.

I expect he'll change his mind when he realises he'll be expected to play for free!

Should've made an appearance by now you'd have thought. Let's face it he's not going to get in the side with Bowyer Leadbitter Healy Drury and Hyam ahead of him.

Another marvellous Keane signing. Did we have to pay compensation to Sunderland when we signed him?

Nah, you only pay compensation when the parent club has tried to keep the player, they have to have offered him a contract to same value or higher than the one he was on to be entitled to compensation. Sunderland just released him without offering new terms, as far as I'm aware.

Sunderland did want to keep Hourihane and I believe we had to pay a fee for him. When was the last time Ipswich paid a fee for a player who didn't make a single first team appearance? Another poor Keane signing.

Difficult to tell whether he was a good signing or not - as I don't recall seeing him play! Believe he was brought in on the hope he would push on - even PJ decided to offer him a contract extension - but I agree he probably needs a move so he can play some games.

Bye! Another example unfortunately of Keane signing the wrong player, wrong club at wrong price and its players like this that ultimately show how Keane failed. I was very sad to see that as was desperate for Keane to do well as admired him as player and his honesty in these times of footballs greed. But we couldnt have gone on like we did as we would have gone down.

Clueless Keane signing players only fit for lower leagues and Jas0999 its not that difficult to say he was a bad signing been at the club for 2 seasons and never got on the pitch under two managers who see him day in day out
