Double Deal Delayed Until Tuesday
Double Deal Delayed Until Tuesday
Monday, 25th Jul 2011 21:05

Town are now expected to complete the signings of Arsenal’s Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Fulham’s David Stockdale on Tuesday. We understand the deal to make striker or midfielder Emmanuel-Thomas a permanent addition is done but that there has been a minor hold-up regarding the paperwork relating to the season-long loan of keeper Stockdale.

Both players were at Portman Road today for talks and for Emmanuel-Thomas to undergo a medical after Town and the Gunners agreed a fee which TWTD now understands to be an initial £1.5 million rising to £2 million with additional clauses.

Terms on Stockdale's loan were agreed with Fulham late last week with the Premier League side insisting on a recall clause in case first choice Mark Schwarzer suffers an injury.

The Blues expect to be able to formally announce the completion of the deals on Tuesday in time for the duo to play in the friendly at Colchester United (KO 7.45pm).

Fans travelling to Colchester without tickets should note they need to buy one at the Ticket Office at the Weston Homes Community Stadium before they can enter via the turnstiles. A Blues following of more than 1,200 is expected to travel to the north Essex club.

Good news that the deal hasn't fallen through, but typical that the fee is double what was originally quoted. We always seem to end up paying more than we originally thought and when we sell the figure is usually lower than first thought. Recently £1M Chopra became £1.5M Chopra, and Wickham's fee was about £1M less than reported a day earlier.

Still, it will be a great moment when JET's transfer is confirmed. Stockdale I am not so worried about due to the recall clause; I think Fulham may be wanting him back when their soon-to-be-39 first-choice keeper gets injured.

Don't think he will be, but I hope JET isn't another Lee Martin. The fee is becoming similar.

I dont understand how one deal, a loan from fulham, can effect the other,a permanent deal from arsenal, UNLESS the F.A are the ones who have the problem and its not at club level but on high its the only explanation

Hopefully this will stop everyone panicking about paperwork! I think Lee Martins a good player and think Chopras an absolute bargain at 1.5 when you see doncaster want 3.5 for sharp!!!!

My mates an Arsenal fan and he rates him, says he's scored some "unbelievable goals" in reserves and friendlies and he's played everywhere across midfield, up front and left back / centre back. Seems like we've signed a talented player but lacking experience, could be a fantastic signing with the right guidance/development.

Hopefully they sign in the morning. And go along with the squad to the Col U match.

Brillant signings when signed.

another looooong drawn out couple of deals, but excited about both. These things used to be much more simples and get done, then we would hear about them. Decent defender in next and I will start to be a little more happy

Why do people seek scandal so much nowadays? [sigh]

I would assume they chose (logically) to delay the press conference.
Why have one in the evening when staff want to go home etc? Only to get all the journalists back the next day (a few hours later). Life DOES go on.

The key phrase was 'the Emanuel-Thomas deal is done'.

As Blackadder said: "Reading is sooo important, Baldrick".

This ipswich is better than everbody nonsense statement people are using is lazy and stupid. We are in competition, we need to earn right to say we are better. Self entitlement is a crippling problem within modern society, stay away from portman road thanks

Type his name into the comments section on twitter and most arsenal fans posting are disappointed that he's leaving. And at the price aswell. Granted he hasn't proved much, yet. But what had Connor Wickham proved before moving to sunderland for 8 mill.

I'm not putting Wickham and JET in the same brackets as each other, but I'm just saying, we have sold one promising youngster and brought in another at a fraction of the cost. If he flops, we've spent 1.5 mill initially, not 8 like sunderland.

And as for stockdale, yup it'll be frustrating if he gets recalled but come on people, this guy has made the england cut twice in the last 12 months, and some of you aren't pleased at this!!!! Yes it would disjoint the team if he left, but if he is as good as people say he is, then he will be a huge influence on our back line.

Very pleased with these two signings.

The chant for J.E.T. has to be......... well, 'Jet' by Paul Mccartney

JET................WOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOH
JET................WOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOO-OOH

Still, I'd love to see the look on the face of the first Planet Blue assistant, to get asked for Emmanuel-Thomas on the back of their shirt. Think you'd need to buy a 5XXXL to fit all that on
