O'Connor Back at Town as Crawley Consider Move
O'Connor Back at Town as Crawley Consider Move

Shane O’Connor has returned to Town after his trial at Crawley with the League Two new boys still weighing up whether to make an offer for the 21-year-old. The Republic of Ireland U21 international spent last week with the Red Devils, making two friendly appearances.

Manager Steve Evans says he has been given the green light to spend some cash: “We have got money to strengthen the squad. I had a meeting yesterday with the board about one or two possibilities and I have been told to explore them over the next few days.”

Left-back or left midfielder O'Connor, who has a year left on his Town contract, netted in an 8-1 victory over East Grinstead Town a week ago and was also in the side which drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Friday.

Meanwhile, Conor Hourihane, who joined Plymouth on trial yesterday, could play in a friendly against Truro City on Wednesday. The Irishman, who signed a six-month contract earlier in the summer, could win himself a loan spell with the Pilgrims if he impresses.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United hope to stave off interest in defender Matthew Lowton from the likes of Town and Leicester by offering the 22-year-old a contract until the summer of 2014.

Manager Danny Wilson hopes the Chesterfield-born player will sign his new terms next week: “We don’t want to see our up-and-coming lads getting poached.

“Being realistic you’re never able to keep a hold of everybody but we don’t want to become known as a selling club.

“Where possible we want them to grow and develop with us. That’s why I’m delighted with what’s happened with Matty.”

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

Will we allow hom to leave on a free or do we get a small fee? Or some compensation.

Although I didn't see him on a day to day basis, I thought that O'connor at his age would have been one of the ones for the future.

I'd rather keep him than sell. We need someone like him on the left. Loads of pace, energy and ball control. I'd pick him at left back before Mark Kennedy.

The fact Crawley haven't signed him immediately should say a lot. Jewell clearly has seen something he doesn't like in his day to day work at the training ground, so we should say thank you and wish him well. If Jewell had any belief in him, i'd guess we would be looking at a loan deal so he could prove himself?

They have the money as they are bankrolled by a very rich benefactor, so wages for someone like O'Connor wouldn't be an issue.

Not sure wages won't be a problem, bit like a scaled down version of us trying to sign Bullard.

Fancy Leicester coming in for Lowton. They are becoming like your better looking bestmate pinching the girl that you turned up to the party with...... (or was that just me that happened too)........(regularly)

Just you I reckon mate!

I would love to know why O'conner is out of favour with PJ. Skill lacks, but works hard.
