Jewell Backs Ref's Decision
Jewell Backs Ref's Decision
Tuesday, 26th Jul 2011 22:16

Town boss Paul Jewell felt referee Darren Deadman made the right decision to abandon the Blues’ pre-season friendly at Colchester due to the facial injury to U’s midfielder Andy Bond. The scoreless game had eight minutes remaining when it was prematurely ended.

Jewell said: “The referee says he’s in a bad way and the lad’s well-being is the main thing. It looked pretty serious and it was absolutely the right decision to call the game off.”

The Blues boss wasn’t overly impressed with his team’s display prior to the abandonment, but felt it was a useful exercise: “We’re frustrated the way we’ve performed in the last couple of games. We’ve got a few new players, Jay only came in and trained this morning for the first time.

“It’s been a bit of a frustration the last two games, we’ve haven’t played great, but fitness-wise - and that’s what it’s about — we’ve got something out of it.

"We know we’ve got to improve and we’re still trying to improve the squad before next weekend.”

Time to sign Pascal Chimbonda (great cover at RB and CB) and Koumas for some creativity in the middle / flank...

All I needed to hear. We DO need to improve in our back four for certain. If we can then get someone to compliment Bowyer in the centre I'll be more than happy. Agreed it was right to end the game when they did. Hope the guy's okay.

Still need a RB and a covering CB now Brown & co have gone... Hope the lad's ok. Not good to have an injury in pre-season, all the best.

Matthollandisgod - the last thing we need is a past it mercenary like Chimnonda! Someone in the Stearman mould would be great.

We need someone who can be our Bullard as I can't see him coming even if he is able to leave.

TractorMan - Stearman would be great but CB or RB - like he was for Leicester?

Personally I think a creative midfielder to partner Bowyer or Leadbetter is the priority now. We haven't had someone like that since magic and then Bullard for part of last season. Look at the difference Bullard made, need someone able to make the telling passes. If we can get midfield sorted will take a lot of pressure of the back line and provide the forwards with chances.

On that dire display we need 11 in.
Well 9 anyway Stockdale was fine (nothing to do though) and Cresswell looks a real find.
