Midfielder Conor Hourihane’s trial at Plymouth got off to a fine start on Wednesday evening with the Irish U21 international scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Truro City at Home Park. The Pilgrims' official website described the former Sunderland man as "the best player on the park".

Argyle boss Peter Reid was clearly impressed with the 20-year-old, who netted his goal in the 36th minute after completing a one-two with fellow trialist Joe Mendes: "I thought Conor did well. Conor's goal was terrific. I think he's got a good range of passing."

Hourihane, who signed a new six-month deal with the Blues earlier in the summer, is trying to win a loan deal with the Pilgrims.

Elsewhere, at the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland, Town’s U15s will face Everton in their semi-final in the Junior section later today.

In the Elite competition, Cody Cropper’s US will play Georgia in the third/fourth play-off having drawn 1-1 with Mexico on Wednesday, while Caolan Lavery and Cormac Burke’s Northern Ireland - who beat the Georgians 3-1 yesterday - take on Denmark in the final with both matches on Friday.

Good to see a player actually stepping up to the plate, even if it is for another team! Too many lazy players these days not putting in as much effort as they could!

Sounds like his loan is in the bag.

The best player on the park...he has never made it onto the park for Ipswich! A strange one as Keane signed him and we think paid compensation to get him, a player he knew personally from his Sunderland days, yet when he got to Ipswich he was behind most of our own youth players and did not even appear once.

From Argyle fans that watched him last night: he had some decent long range passing ability but made errors with shorter passing. Looked keen to get a contract, didn't set the world alight but would be a useful signing for the Greens
